Kash Patel wants partnership with UFC to train agents

When Kash Patel took over the FBI, he vowed to rebuild it and make it better than ever.

However, I doubt agents were close to thinking what Patel had in mind.

Taking Over the FBI

I think it goes without saying that the FBI was a hot mess under Directors Wray and Comey.

Leadership was weak, agents and some leadership were pushing an agenda, and laws were literally being broken.

In truth, the trust is gone, but that is something that Patel had stated he hoped to change during his confirmation hearings.

It was not easy, but Patel managed to get by without even needing JD Vance to supply the tiebreaking vote.

Rebuilding the FBI

When Biden was in office, Patel had talked about dismantling the FBI, but he took a different tone during his confirmation hearings and the aftermath.

After being confirmed, he stated, "I am honored to be confirmed as the ninth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. My mission as Director is clear: let good cops be cops - and rebuild trust in the FBI. We will rebuild an FBI the American people can be proud of.”

I am probably one of the few conservative writers who continued to back the FBI throughout this mess, but that is only because I have considerable contacts with both past and present agents who I know want to do the right thing.

Most of them were sickened by the path leadership took the agency, and they are all looking forward to the agency regaining respect for being the best law enforcement agency in the world.

Let’s Work Out

As part of the rebuilding, Patel is looking to give his agents a bit more of an edge on the streets, so he announced this week that he wanted to partner with Dana White and the UFC to train his agents how to fight better if and when they were forced into a physical confrontation.

Patel was surely urged on by his new deputy director, Dan Bongino, who is also a huge UFC fan, as is President Trump.

Of course, shots are already being fired by critics. One former DOJ official, who did not have the guts to put his name on the statement, said, “There is training the FBI receives in physical altercations. If Kash Patel believed that should be beefed up, the answer is not to go to Donald Trump’s best friend who runs the UFC. It’s clearly motivated by the glitz and glamour show and Trump’s friend.”

I say, “Who cares?” Who better to train agents in ground and pound than the best in the business? Sure it will get them all some headlines, but the way things are on the streets these days, these agents must be able to defend themselves, and I think having UFC fighters train them will definitely give them an edge. And if it has a little Hollywood involved, so be it.
