Letitia James indictment sparks outrage among Democrats

The indictment of New York Attorney General Letitia James seemed like a pipe dream for the longest time.

The grand jury had been hearing evidence for months, and reports were not very good that an indictment would come down.

It finally did, however, and Democrats just about lost their minds.

She’s Been Indicted

Everyone is losing their mind over this indictment, but let’s not forget, this is not a random prosecutor throwing around charges.

The case was presented to a grand jury, and it found probable cause for charges and issued the indictment.

U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Lindsey Halligan announced the indictment, stating, "No one is above the law. The charges as alleged in this case represent intentional, criminal acts and tremendous breaches of the public’s trust.

“The facts and the law in this case are clear, and we will continue following them to ensure that justice is served."

Drawing Lines in the Sand

As we noted above, Dems were furious, and Republicans called out the clear hypocrisy of the situation.

For instance, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) responded, "Her hypocrisy is profound as she campaigned on the mantra that 'no one is above the law,' yet she now faces allegations of committing the very type of financial misrepresentation she baselessly pursued against President Trump.”

Rep. Rich Torres (D-NY) was on the other side of the coin, stating, "The politically motivated indictment of Attorney General Letitia James is an abuse of power -- a weaponization of government -- at its most outrageous and egregious. Rather than addressing the grocery and utility bills crushing American families, Donald Trump remains pathologically preoccupied with his personal enemies list."

For her part, James says she is innocent, claiming, "These charges are baseless, and the president’s own public statements make clear that his only goal is political retribution at any cost.”

Is This Revenge?

So, I am not so naïve as to think that Trump did not want James’ head on a platter, but don’t be so naïve as to think that Dems were not out to get Trump, either.

But the cases against former FBI Director James Comey and Letitia James are grand jury indictments, so there has to be enough evidence to convince the grand jury that an indictment can be made.

Now, in the real world, Trump never should have been facing the fraud scandal to the extent he was hit by James, and James should be paying a fine, but she set this precedent, so it is what it is. As far as Comey goes, that case is legit, and I hope they find him guilty. When you talk about someone who abused his power, leaked information, and weaponized the justice system, he is the poster child.

Now, prosecutors are still up against it because they are going to have a judge and a jury that is sympathetic to the defendant and that likely despises Trump. If we get a single conviction, I would still be surprised, and if we get them both, well, watch out, because hell is likely to have frozen over.
