Massie sides with Dems on Iranian strike
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) has proven to be a bit difficult for Trump in terms of Massie falling in line with Trump’s agenda.
I don’t know what's up with the state of Kentucky, but its elected officials are not playing nice with Trump, to the point Massie is now spewing Democrat talking points.
Trump declares successful attack
Saturday, Trump finally hit Iran, somehow keeping every aspect of the strike quiet until after it happened.
He addressed the nation late Saturday night, stating, "Our objective was the destruction of Iran's nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world's number one state sponsor of terror.
"Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success. Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated."
Most Republicans applauded the attack for setting back Iran’s nuclear capabilities... most Republicans.
Dems suddenly outraged
While Dems were raging, Jonathan Turley decided to remind that both Obama and Clinton carried out similar strikes, and they all sat on their hands.
He wrote, “Fourteen years ago this week, I was in court litigating that very issue when President Barack Obama attacked Libya. Most Democrats supported or were silent on the action.
“Nevertheless, Democratic members are now calling for impeachment, while others are declaring the attacks unconstitutional. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is particularly shocked that Trump took the action and is calling for a vote under the War Powers Act.”
It was not surprising to see the hypocrisy of the Democrats, but it was shocking to see a Republican push their talking points.
Massie goes to the dark side
I have stuck up for Massie in prior posts because I honestly believed he was sticking up for his constituents with his push back, and I can live with that, but now he is coming off as a crusader.
Massie called the attack “unconstitutional,” uttering the same attack we have heard from Democrats, then added, "When two countries are bombing each other daily in a hot war, and a third country joins the bombing, that’s an act of war.” He continued. "I’m amazed at the mental gymnastics being undertaken by neocons in D.C. (and their social media bots) to say we aren’t at war … so they can make war."
Trump pushed right back, stating, "Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky is not MAGA, even though he likes to say he is. Actually, MAGA doesn’t want him, doesn’t know him, and doesn’t respect him.”
While Massie and Democrats are whining in the media, Iran has already carried out a failed retaliatory strike and expressed a desire not to escalate, so, for all intents and purposes, this is over. And it may also be over for Massie, as he may have just pushed back too far one too many times.
