Media Touting Matt Gaetz as Favorite in Next FL Gubernatorial Election

With Governor Ron DeSantis being termed out, Florida will have to find a new governor come 2026.  

Right now, numerous media pundits believe that former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is the favorite, and I can only say that I hope that is not the case.  

Thinking About It 

Gaetz is now out of politics, but since the report he was trying so hard to have buried has come out, he is now considering a comeback.  

Some thought he might go after Senator Rubio’s seat once he gets confirmed as Trump’s Secretary of State, but it would appear that Gaetz may have something different in mind.  

Gaetz recently stated that he has a “compelling vision for the state,” and that he is “starting to think about" running for office in 2026.  

For the sake of Florida and the GOP, I hope he does not do it.  

He’s the Favorite 

Former CNN political analyst Chris Cillizza is stoking this fire, claiming that even though Gaetz has considerable baggage, he believes that Gaetz is the favorite.  

He stated, “I know people roll their eyes at this, but I honestly think he’s the frontrunner to be the Republican nominee for governor in 2026, and if he is the Republican nominee, then he’s the favorite to win because Florida has moved in the direction of Republicans in a pretty significant way in the last couple elections. 

“So yes, you could absolutely see a Governor Matt Gaetz at this time in 2027. I don’t think there’s any question.” 

Believe me, this is what the mainstream media want to see and it is what Democrats want to see because Gaetz provides them with more ammo than Ukraine has received from the United States during its war with Ukraine.  

It’s a Mistake 

I do not support Gaetz, period. We all know about the allegations made against him, but that is not the only reason I refuse to support him.  

In Congress, he was a clown, more worried about headlines and his social profile than he was in legislating, which is really a shame because he had some really good moments during committee hearings where he showed promise.  

Regarding the allegations, I believe the only reason Gaetz was never charged was because he had a buffer in the financial transactions, but he was clearly shelling out money to these women. I know what he said, and I know what the government could prove, and I just think we can do better.  

What really bothers me, though, is that people like Ron DeSantis would really have no other choice but to support Gaetz if he wins the primary, staining their reputations for being attached to Gaetz in that election. We have to be better than Gaetz... we just have to be.
