Mexico's president vows to reform constitution to prevent U.S. military incursion

President Donald Trump is ready to do what has needed to be done for decades -- and that's using all of America's might and military power to crush the Mexican drug cartels.

Now that it's a real possibility, Mexico is making moves. According to Fox News, Mexico's president announced this week that she will aim to reform the country's constitution to protect its sovereignty given the looming threat of Trump bringing the military across the border.

Many have expressed support for Trump's suggestion that the cartels be dealt with via the U.S. military.

Mexico's posturing came in the wake of the Trump administration designating no less than six major cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

What's going on?

Fox News noted:

The Mexican cartels on the Trump administration’s list include the Sinaloa, Jalisco, Zetas, the Gulf Cartels, Cartel Unidos and "La Nueva Familia Michoacana." Other groups include the international Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua and the Salvadoran gang Mara Salvatrucha, also known as MS-13.

Apparently, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is completely fine with the cartels continuing to wreak havoc on the country, as she made it clear that no other country, including the United States, will attempt to interfere.

It was reported that President Sheinbaum was not consulted prior to Trump naming the cartels as FTOs, which obviously hurt her feelings.

"The Mexican people will not accept under any circumstances interventions, interference or any other act from abroad that could be harmful to the integrity, independence and sovereignty of the nation," the Mexican president said.

"What we want to make clear in the face of this designation is that we do not negotiate sovereignty," Sheinbaum said. "This cannot be an opportunity for the United States to invade our sovereignty."

Meanwhile, the residents of Mexico continue to live in poverty and fear because of the cartel issue.

Social media reaction

Users across social media reacted to the Mexican president's vow to reform the country's constitution.

"Doesn’t matter what law she tries to pass. She would effectively be harboring terrorists. Which would lead to economic sanctions to Mexico if she does not cooperate with the elimination of the cartels. Trump is not playing around," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Looks like someone is paid by the cartels to be their public opinion face… Don’t play the cartels game. Someone always gets hurt."
