Musk finally reveals the faces of DOGE
This week, Elon Musk finally revealed the people behind DOGE.
As far as I know, this was the first time names and faces have been put on the full team responsible for finding government waste and fraud.
Trump Taps Musk to Lead DOGE
The idea of DOGE is nothing new, as numerous administrations have discussed the option or even created a task force to attempt to address the problem, but nothing ever really came from these previous efforts.
Ironically, even though Democrats are now raging about this, Barack Obama was the most recent president to do so. Even more ironic is that he put Biden in charge of the project.
Initially, Trump appointed Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, stating, "Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies - Essential to the 'Save America' Movement. I look forward to Elon and Vivek making changes to the Federal Bureaucracy with an eye on efficiency and, at the same time, making life better for all Americans."
Ramaswamy later bailed, with rumors stating that he and Musk were not meshing, as well as a possible run in Ohio for governor.
DOGE Cuts
DOGE claims it is slashing about $1 billion per day to save Americans money, but I think that is a rather generous claim.
And I don’t doubt that DOGE is finding $1 billion a day, but every move Trump makes, including these cuts, are being challenged in court, and Trump’s rate of success in court is not very good.
Some of the verified cuts by DOGE are about $8 billion in canceled contracts, $10 billion in canceled grants (some of which are being challenged), and about $660 million in canceled leases.
There are also savings from cutting staff, but that number is now clearly up in the air, as the courts have ordered most of these employees back to work.
Musk Pulls Back the Curtain
Musk sat down with Bret Baier this week on “Special Report,” bringing a handful of the brave souls who work for DOGE that did not mind their face being blasted all over the country.
Musk told Baier, “We want to reduce spending by eliminating waste and fraud, and reduce the spending by 15%, which seems quite achievable. The government is not efficient, and there's a lot of waste and fraud. So we feel confident that a 15% reduction can be done without affecting any of the critical government services."
I love the concept of DOGE, but I have also stated that I think Musk needs to limit his work to making recommendations and allow Trump’s secretaries and directors to carry out the actual staff reductions and program cuts.
Now, in addition to Musk, we know that Steve Davis, Joe Gebbia, Aram Moghaddassi, Brad Smith, Anthony Armstrong, Tom Krause, and Tyler Hassen are working for DOGE. I just hope them being exposed does not put them or their families at risk from the crazies on the left.
