Musk having a change of heart
When Elon Musk was brought aboard, he came with the agreement that he was going to cut government spending.
Not long after he took over DOGE, Elon made an appearance where someone gave him a chainsaw to “cut” the fat out of the budget.
Elon says he now regrets how he acted, as that picture was not very empathetic to people losing their jobs.
The DOGE Chainsaw
Musk appeared at CPAC and was gifted a chainsaw by Argentina's President Milei.
He accepted the gift, then told the crowd, "This is the chainsaw for bureaucracy! Chainsaw!"
The move was met with questions by both sides, as they said it was just way over the top, especially considering how Elon was making cuts. For example, Rep. Rich McCormick (R-GA) stated, "I understand trying to do more with less – that's reasonable. What's not reasonable is taking this chainsaw approach."
I agreed with McCormick, as I loved the idea of trimming government spending, but I thought these blanket cuts by Musk were a foolish way to go about it, saying that I thought that decision should have been put in the hands of directors and secretaries of their respective departments.
The Falling Out
It did not take long for the two alphas to have a falling out, and when Trump and Musk broke up, they did it spectacularly and very publicly.
Musk went after the BBB, calling it a “massive, outrageous, pork-filled…a disgusting abomination” that would “massively increase” the budget deficit. “Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”
More recently, Musk said he would back Massie if Trump tries to primary him.
He has also vowed to primary every member of Congress who supported the bill.
Regrets
Musk now appears to be trying to win back some of the fans he had before he went full MAGA.
When someone on X accused Musk of acting like a fool with that chainsaw stunt, Musk agreed, adding, “Valid point. Milei gave me the chainsaw backstage and I ran with it, but, in retrospect, it lacked empathy.”
People have asked me why Musk and Trump had a fallout, and I believe it was because Musk came to the realization he was nothing more than a prop, and I think the BBB proves me right.
I believe that bill will be the death of the GOP in 2026 and 2028 because I just don’t see how the deficit is reduced, as promised, and I would be shocked if it is not over $40 trillion by the time Trump leaves office, and I just cannot get behind that. There are a lot of great features in that bill, but we need the money to pay for them, and we don’t have it. Call me a RINO if you like, I have thick skin, but I will not budge on reducing our deficit, and I don’t believe this bill does that. I would love to be wrong here, and I truly hope I am for the sake of the future of the conservative movement.
