Nevada Democrat Refused to Debate Republican Opponent
The norm in this country before an election, local, state, or federal, has always been to debate your opponent(s).
That no longer appears to be the case.
Trump refused to debate his primary opponents, and won. Katie Hobbs refused to debate Kari Lake, and won. And now a Nevada Democrat is refusing to debate her Republican opponent before the debate.
New Strategy
Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) is invoking the hide-in-the-basement strategy against her opponent, Republican Sam Brown.
Initially, Rosen said that she would be open to a debate sometime in October, but her camp is now pulling back that pledge.
Rosen is apparently going the route of Joe Biden and offering up a list of demands that must be agreed to by Brown before she will even consider debating him.
The Daily Indy reported, “She would not do a debate unless it was televised live — we cannot promise that, although it will be televised on that same day or soon afterward, as the gubernatorial debate was.
“They also insisted on no live audience — I, too, do not like live audiences at debates, but this is a conference and, as in 2022, I would admonish the audience against clapping or other outbursts.”
The report continued that Rosen’s full list of demands would be published in the near future, but then Rosen’s team completely backed out, stating, “After reviewing invitations and details from different potential hosts, we’ve decided to go in a different direction.”
Brown has been endorsed by Trump, who called him a “FEARLESS AMERICAN PATRIOT, a Purple Heart Recipient, who has proven he has the ‘PURE GRIT’ and COURAGE to take on our Enemies, both Foreign and Domestic.”
Unfortunately for Brown, Rosen is in the driver's seat right now, leading by five points in the latest poll.
One poll had Brown within two points in early July, but that is the closest he has been in this race from the outset, so don’t expect Rosen to change her stance unless we see a dramatic shift in polling over the next five or six weeks.
