New CA poll shows Dems losing grip on forever-blue state

Kamala Harris may be the worst thing that ever happened to the Democrat Party, and everyone seems to see that except for Democrats.

Harris got knocked out of the 2020 election before the first primary was held. She lost to Donald Trump, yet she is still the favorite for the CA gubernatorial election and the 2028 Democrat primary race. And it could cost Democrats the gubernatorial election in California.

Harris Exit Polling as VP

As the Biden administration was winding down, Harris was sitting at an approval rating of only 39%, with a disapproval rating of 55%, giving her a -16 rating.

Yet, only months later, she was anointed as the Democrat primary candidate after Joe Biden made the unprecedented move to drop out of the presidential race after securing the nomination.

As we now know, Donald Trump mopped the floor with her, despite the fact that Harris was spotted with a four-point lead only three months before the election.

Just as what happened in the primary, the more people saw her, the less they liked her.

Harris Double-digit Favorite

Even as disastrous as Harris was as a VP and presidential candidate, she has already been installed as the favorite to win the nod in the Democrat Primary.

In a packed field of possible candidates, Harris was leading the field with 36% support. The next closest was former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, but he only had 10% support.

The rest of the field was sitting in single digits, including CA Governor Gavin Newsom, who had been the golden child of the party, and the person who many thought would take over for Biden in 2024.

Democrats are clearly not learning from the failure, or they are just lost because there is nobody impressive stepping up.

Losing Votes

The Democrat field is so pathetic, nearly 50% of all registered voters in California are now thinking about pulling the handle for a Republican in the 2026 gubernatorial race, where Harris is already a huge favorite to get the Democrat nod even though she has not even entered the race yet.

A local outlet ran the poll, showing 48% of those surveyed are now considering a GOP candidate to be their governor.

Keep in mind, in 2022, Newsom won his election with more than 59% of the vote, so that is a huge drop in support for Republicans, who would be +8 according to that poll.

If Harris enters this race, she wins the nod by Democrats, so the GOP really needs to think long and hard about who it will put up for governor in this election. Could it possibly be the return of Kevin McCarthy, or will Trump personally anoint a candidate, maybe someone like former Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA)? With Musk’s money, this race is now winnable.
