Newsom Ban on Voter ID Laws in California Takes Effect
In most red states in this country, you have to show your ID when you walk into a polling station.
That is not the case in most blue states, and in California, Voter ID has just been banned outright, which is creating quite a bit of outrage on the right.
What Are Voter ID Laws?
In a nutshell, these laws require any voter who enters a polling station or fills out a mail-in ballot to produce valid ID to prove they are a legal resident and citizen.
In Texas, you have to produce one of seven possible forms of ID in order to be able to cast a vote, such as a State-issued ID, State Driving License, Military Card, Texas Election Certificate, Texas Handgun License, US Citizenship Certificate (with photo), or a US Passport book or card.
This, to most of us, is just common sense to prove that the person being given the ballot is eligible to vote, but it is now how Democrats see it.
Even though you need a valid ID to buy liquor, a plane ticket, cigarettes, open a bank account, or even rent a car, Dems say requiring someone to have an ID is voter suppression.
Newsom Bans Voter ID Laws in California
Back in September, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law that would block local jurisdictions in California from being able to institute local Voter ID laws. The law took effect this year.
The law was in response to a ballot initiative that went the opposite way, with 53.4% of voters wanting a valid ID to be shown in municipal elections, which contradicts state law.
At the time the legislation was going through the legislature, California Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) stated, “The right to freely cast your vote is the foundation of our democracy and Huntington Beach’s voter ID policy flies in the face of this principle.
“State election law already contains robust voter ID requirements with strong protections to prevent voter fraud, while ensuring that every eligible voter can cast their ballot without hardship. Imposing unnecessary obstacles to voter participation disproportionately burdens low-income voters, voters of color, young or elderly voters, and people with disabilities.”
That is not voter suppression, and rest assured, polling stations in California cannot even ask you for an ID, and if you present it, they won’t look at it, so, basically, his entire statement is a lie.
The Response
Donald Trump’s new buddy, Elon Musk, was very outspoken after the law went into effect, but he also raised a very valid point in the process.
Musk posted on X, “It is now illegal to show your ID even in local elections in California. The reason they’re doing this is to make voting fraud unprovable.”
Not only has California banned Voter ID laws, but, according to reports, it also allowed ballots received after Election Day to be counted, which aided several Democrats in winning their seats.
Democrats are the first people to tout free and fair elections, but voter ID laws should be the first wave of protection against voter fraud, yet this is the one issue that Democrats are willing to die on the line over. How can an election be free and fair if you don’t even know if the people voting are actual American citizens?
