Newsom flips on key Democrat issue from 2024 election cycle
California Governor Gavin Newsom is clearly positioning himself for a run at the White House in 2028, and you would have to be blind not to see that.
To that point, Newsom just flipped on a major point of contention for Democrats during the 2024 cycle… transgenders in women’s sports.
The Polling
This was a hot potato issue during the last election cycle, and Americans seemed more passionate about this than abortion, to the detriment of the Democrat Party.
My best guess is that this actually impacts every family, with liberal parents wanting to see their daughters safe on the field of play as well as having a fair shot, which they would not have competing against biological boys.
Polling tells a definitive temperature, with 79% of the country saying that sports should be gender based, not identity-gender-based. Even among Democrats, that number was high, with 67% believing transgenders should not be able to play in women’s sports.
As I have stated in previous reports, nobody would advocate for eliminating gender in categorizing sports, yet the activists are okay with men who identify as women infiltrating women’s sports. It literally makes no sense.
Newsom Got the Memo
Like many other politicians, Gavin Newsom has decided he had too much free time as governor, so he launched a podcast. His debut episode featured a conversation with conservative pundit Charlie Kirk.
Kirk challenged Newsom regarding a transgender high school athlete that just shattered the local long jump record by something like eight feet.
When he asked Newsom if he supported that athlete competing, Newsom offered up a rather shocking answer, stating, "Well, I think it's an issue of fairness. I completely agree with you on that. It's deeply unfair."
Newsom, who has an athletic background, as does his wife, continued, "So that's easy to call out the unfairness of that. There's also a humility and a grace… these poor people are more likely to commit suicide, have anxiety and depression, and the way that people talk down to vulnerable communities is an issue that I have a hard time with as well."
It Will Cost Him
There is already a lot of noise on the left over Newsom’s position, so we will have to see if he can stay big picture and tune this out.
As an example, one of the largest LGBTQ+ groups, the Human Rights Campaign, went right after Newsom after the interview, stating, "The path to 2028 isn't paved with the betrayal of vulnerable communities... it's built on the courage to stand up for what's right and do the hard work to actually help the American people."
This is not betraying the LGBTQ+ community, it is sticking up for women’s rights, safety, and fairness in athletics. Just because something offends a group of people does not mean it’s wrong. Again, I have yet to meet the liberal that wants to remove gender categorization of sports, yet I know quite a few of them who advocate for transgenders in women’s sports, and many of them are women!
People have a right to be offended, but that does not mean their position is right. We have already seen women severely injured competing against transgenders, and it is only a matter of time before someone gets killed in a combat or full-contact sport. How about we let sanity take over in this one. Compete in your biological sport or give it up… or, better yet, form a transgender league and have a go at it that way. But I do know one thing… biological men should not be competing in women’s sports regardless of how they identify.
