Nobel Peace Prize awarded, but not to Trump
Friday morning, the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize was announced, and it was not Donald Trump.
There are a lot of people upset over that, but I am here to tell you they need to dial it down.
Yes, Trump has some great accomplishments, but they did not happen during the nomination period, so his award will hopefully come next year.
The Winner
There was plenty of support for Trump, but I don’t think most people realized the submission period had already closed out. So, with that in mind, the committee chose Maria Corina Machado, an opposition leader in Venezuela.
That did not stop people from making a late charge for Trump. For instance, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum noted support for Trump, stating, "In this past year, no leader or organization has contributed more to peace around the world than President Trump. While many have spoken eloquently about peace, he has achieved it.”
The statement continued, “While others have offered empty promises, he has delivered tangible results that have saved countless lives," the forum wrote in a letter to the committee dated Oct. 6. He has not merely spoken of peace -- he has delivered it.”
White House communications director Steven Chueng was furious over the perceived snub, writing, "He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will. The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace.”
Machado Gives Trump a Nod
The winner was a class act in accepting her award, even mentioning Trump in her acceptance of the award.
Machado stated, “We are on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies to achieve Freedom and democracy.
“I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!”
This was a very nice gesture, and I hope her words sink in with the committee for next year.
It Really Wasn’t a Snub
This is probably not very popular right now, but all the nominations that Trump received were actually for the 2026 award.
Trump was put in for the award by Prime Minister Netanyahu, but that was around July, and nominations closed out on January 31, 2025, for this cycle. Trump will probably have multiple nominations for this peace deal, and more coming if he expands the Abraham Accord agreements and gets a peace deal in place between Russia and Ukraine.
So, don’t be too upset about the perceived snub this time around.
Having said that, if Trump is not the winner in 2026, we will have a real beef with that committee. At that point, it would be clear that the award is politicized and real-world accomplishments mean nothing. For now, be happy for Machado, a deserving recipient.
