Noem: Trump border wall construction set to begin again
During Donald Trump’s first term in office, he promised to build a border wall, and Mexico would pay for it. Mexico never did pay for it, but that was not really what Trump meant anyway (I will get into that shortly).
When he took office, Biden halted the construction of the border wall, but DHS Secretary Noem said it was about to get fired back up again.
Mexico will pay
I wrote extensively about this during Donald Trump’s first term, but I wish he had explained it better himself during his campaign and presidency.
To anyone with an ounce of common sense, it was clear that Mexico was not going to write the United States a check for the border.
However, in a roundabout way, locking down the border would finally pay us back for the costs of the border, which is what Trump was implying and horribly explained when he was in office.
Between the savings on processing illegals, housing them, and entitlement programs, I had little doubt we would have recovered the costs of the wall in just a few years, but now we will never know.
Biden halts border wall construction
Between new wall sections and replaced faulty sections, Trump built about 450 miles of new border wall, but it was far from completed when Biden slammed the brakes on the construction.
Biden not only paused billions of dollars in contracts (roughly about 60% of which had been completed), Biden just let the materials sit there, rusting in the elements, laughing while our taxpayer dollars turned into rust.
Trump’s goal was to complete 664 miles of border wall, so there are still about 200 miles needed to complete the original project.
To add insult to injury, Biden sold off many of the supplies that were still workable, although Texas filed suit to block the sale, so some of those supplies are still waiting to be used.
Fire it up
With Trump back in office, you knew the border wall would be top of mind, and Secretary Noem announced that a seven-mile stretch of the wall is about to get started.
Noem posted a video to her X account this weekend, stating, “Everybody, I’m here in Arizona, and right at this spot, you can see where the border wall ends. As of today, we’re starting 7 new miles of construction, we’re going to continue to make America safe again.”
Dems argue walls don’t work, yet they put them up around their homes and around the Capitol when they are worried about protests.
To be clear, the wall will never outright stop illegal immigration, but it will be a major deterrent and can slow the flow so authorities can do a better job of catching these people when they are trying to come over. Personally, I don’t care what it costs… finish building that wall!
