NY Post editorial board says CBS should fire executive producer Bill Owens
Pressure is growing for CBS to fire "60 Minutes" executive producer Bill Owens.
According to Fox News, the New York Post's editorial board said the network could fix its "lefty-propaganda problem" by giving Owens his walking papers in the wake of the controversial editing of an answer Kamala Harris gave about Israel during an interview.
The situation was so monumentally bad for CBS that it even included a massive defamation suit filed by then-candidate Donald Trump, who claimed the editing amounted to election interference.
Trump, in a $10 billion lawsuit, accused the network of helping Kamala Harris through the use of "deceptive editing" after only the second half of one of her answers to a question about Israel was aired.
What happened?
The full transcript of Harris' answers to the question were released after the network chose to only air the second part of an answer that she had otherwise severely botched.
Fox News noted:
Earlier this week, Federal Communication Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr knocked CBS News' conduct following the release of the network's unedited transcript of its "60 Minutes" interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris.
The Post's editorial board held nothing back in its quest to have CBS fire Owens.
"Like all too many legacy media operations, it needs to clear out the partisan rot. It can start by booting ‘60 Minutes’ head producer Bill Owens, who has made all too many bad calls," the board wrote.
"Most obviously, to slice-and-dice the Harris interview, cutting down one word-salad answer after another into seemingly coherent responses," the editorial board added. "Owens told his staff that the interview editing was ‘perfectly fine’ and that ‘the company knows I will not apologize for anything we have done.’"
The board slammed the network for what was an obvious attempt to hide the presidential candidate's word salad and overall incompetence.
"And viewers likely never would’ve never known about the deception if CBS hadn’t released her full response to one question in a promo," it added.
Should it be litigated?
The editorial board stopped short of endorsing Trump's lawsuit against the network, but noted that the situation is undoubtedly causing a headache with the network's attempt to merge with Skydance Media.
"Axing Bill Owens won’t magically restore CBS News’ reputation; Americans’ trust in mainstream media is at an all-time low for a lot of reasons. But ousting the shameless partisans from power is a necessary start," the editorial board continued.
Trump has made similar comments in light of his lawsuit against the network.
Only time will tell if CBS makes the call to axe him. Sounds like they should sooner rather than later.
