NYC Mayor Adams considering a run as an independent

All of Mayor Adams’ problems started when it was revealed that he was under federal investigation for, among other charges, bribery.

Adams then shifted gears, selling out his party to buddy up to Trump in the hopes of getting his case either dismissed or receiving a pardon from Trump, but that strategy likely cost him any chance he has of winning the next New York City mayor’s race.

Adams Charged

A lot of people claim that Adams was the victim of lawfare, only charged because he called out Joe Biden for his immigration policies. What they don’t seem to realize is that this investigation was going on long before Adams changed his tune on immigration.

Upon announcing the indictment against Mayor Adams, FBI Assistant Director James E. Dennehy stated, “Today’s indictment serves as a sobering moment but also sends a powerful message to every elected official in this country: public service is a profound responsibility, and it should be a noble calling.  When that’s perverted by greed and dishonesty, it robs us of our trust.  This is a reminder that no one is above the law or beyond reproach.”

DOI Commissioner Jocelyn E. Strauber added, “The indictment unsealed today alleges that Mayor Adams abused his power and position for nearly a decade, obtaining personal benefits and illegal campaign contributions from foreign nationals, and others, giving them undue influence over him.

“As charged, this illegal conduct compromised his integrity as an elected official and New Yorkers expect better.  I thank the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and the FBI for their commitment to partner with DOI to root out corruption in City government.”

Adams Falls in Polling

Between the bribery charges, his immigration stance, and his sudden bond with Donald Trump, New Yorkers had about all they could take from Adams.

Sadly, the alternative to Adams was disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo, whose COVID policies have been alleged to have led to the death of seniors in the state, and whose alleged sexual exploits cost NYC taxpayers tens of millions of dollars.

New York seems to love corruption, though, because the city has embraced Cuomo to be on the Democrat ticket for the upcoming election.

In the latest Quinnipiac University poll, Cuomo was dominating the field with 31% support, and Adams had only 11%, which has now made him consider a run as an independent.

Campaign Collapsing

With Adams now tanking in polling, the fundraising money is drying up, and that is not good news for Adams, who allegedly “owes a lot of money.”

Adams has been avoiding the campaign trail while he awaits the decision as to whether the charges will be dropped, but he has been accumulating some significant legal bills in the process.

Now owing more than a reported $700,000, his only way out of this would be to run a campaign as an independent, then use his campaign funds to pay off his legal bills, similar to what Trump was doing during the presidential campaign.

At that point, it would all be a scam by Adams, as he has no chance of winning this election as an independent. I would love to see Republicans toss a moderate into this race if Adams does decide to stay. A Republican would not have a chance in a head’s up race, but Adams might steal just enough of the liberal vote to give a GOP candidate a shot in a 3-way race.
