Peace deal between Ukraine and Russia seems imminent, but…

Donald Trump has been making progress with Russia and Ukraine, but there are still some bumps in the road.

Trump said he had a “fantastic” call this week, but Russia then decided to carry out another attack on civilian targets.

Zelensky apologizes

Peace looked like it was not to be after a disastrous meeting at the White House between Trump and Zelensky.

An embarrassing ordeal played out on live TV in front of the nation, but as bad as it was, it may have been needed to put Zelensky in his place.

It took a minute, but Zelensky eventually expressed regret over the blowout, stating, "Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians."

“My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump's strong leadership to get a peace that lasts. We are ready to work fast to end the war.”

Trump has great conversations

This week, Trump held calls with both Zelensky and Russian President Putin, and he was very upbeat after they were held.

Trump stated, “The one with President Putin was yesterday—that went very well. I then spoke with President Zelensky today and explained what took place yesterday, and my aim is to put these two countries together.

“Then we work a ceasefire and ultimately we stop losing 2,000 people a week. Two thousand people a week or more are being killed in that war, and I want to stop it. I also want to stop massive payments that are necessary to be made by us. I also want Europe to pay the same as us because they weren’t able to do that under Biden and Biden never asked that because Biden was a grossly incompetent president.

“We had two very good phone calls and I do believe a deal will be worked out so we can stop the bloodshed that’s taking place over there.”

Just One Problem

One would think that in good faith, Russia would have backed off its attacks, but the complete opposite took place. Russia not only carried out another air strike against Ukraine, it hit civilian targets.

There were more than 140 missiles and drones launched at Ukraine, but Ukraine was only able to take out about half of them, with a hospital and railroad being hit.

Zelensky responded, "This confirms that we must continue to pressure Russia for the sake of peace. Only a real halt to Russia's attacks on civilian infrastructure can signal a genuine desire to end this war and bring peace closer."

The bottom line here is that Trump needs to be more forceful with Russia and demand these attacks on civilian targets cease until a cease fire deal can be put in place. They are at war, so military targets are fair game, but Putin is carrying out war crimes right now, and that is simply not acceptable if there is any chance of a peace deal being made.
