Pelosi Reportedly Behind Blocking AOC’s Leadership Bid

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) just made her first bid for leadership on the House Oversight Committee.

She seemed to have a good chance at becoming the ranking member, that is until Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stepped in to stop her.

Going for the Ring

AOC is only 35, but now she is a seasoned veteran in Congress.

As the leader of the squad, it was only a matter of time before she sought a leadership position.

With Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) moving on from the Oversight Committee to become the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, AOC decided to take a run at the ranking member position.

She lost to Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA), who is 74 years old. But this was far from a fair race.

Pelosi Steps In

When it became clear that AOC was going to run for the ranking member, reports immediately surfaced that Pelosi was going to try to block her.

At the time, reports surfaced that Pelosi was blowing up phones to ensure AOC was blocked and Connolly had their support.

It worked, and Connolly won, but the move is not sitting well with a lot of people.

Here Comes the Pushback

One of the first to express hostility toward Pelosi for her little coup was MSNBC anchor Chris Hayes, who stated, "But now Pelosi whipped votes to make sure that Connolly got the Oversight job over the young star in the party, even as the 84-year-old Pelosi is recovering from hip surgery after suffering a fall. It feels like a moment of genuine madness.”

The ladies on “The View” were also a little upset. Co-host Sunny Hostin stated, “She’s been demonized as this too progressive, far-left person, and I want to try to set the record straight because if she is too progressive, then the Democrats really are going to lose the working class because this is her platform.

“The key issues: healthcare for all people, affordable housing, rebuild the unions, federal job guarantee, free public college. … If that is too progressive for this country, then that’s a problem for the Democrats, and that’s a problem, quite frankly, for this country.”

I obviously do not support AOC’s politics, but this is about revenge from Pelosi, who has always had a problem with the attention that AOC gets, especially on social media.

To me, we have leadership in both parties who are on the wrong side of father time. As I stated before, the average age in this country is 38.5 years old, yet nearly half the House and Senate are eligible for Social Security. How in the world is someone like Connelly, who is 74, going to relate to the people he is supposed to represent? I would like to see turnover among Chairs on both sides, but the establishment has a death grip on those positions and has no intention of ever letting go.
