Pete Hegseth takes action against Mark Milley
Pete Hegseth has only been Defense Secretary for a few days, but he's already making some major moves.
Perhaps his biggest so far has been the removal of retired General Mark A. Milley's security detail.
Hegseth has also suspended Milley's security clearance and ordered an inspector general inquiry into Milley's behavior as the Pentagon's top officer.
MSN described it as "extraordinary action against a frequent target of President Donald Trump."
The decision
The decision to take action against Milley wasn't one that was made lightly. Pentagon spokesman John Ullyot recently made an announcement about the situation:
"The Secretary informed General Milley today that he is revoking the authorization for his security detail and suspending his security clearance as well. The Secretary has also directed the DoD IG to conduct an inquiry into the facts and circumstances surrounding Gen Milley’s conduct so that the Secretary may determine whether it is appropriate to reopen his military grade review determination."
Milley had been assigned a personal security detail after America's military killed Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force leader Qasem Soleimani in 2020, and Iran vowed retaliation.
Despite the threat against Milley's life, Trump and Hegseth are very upset about Milley's constant desire to work against Donald Trump's goals. Milley was described as frequently trying to undermine the chain of command during the end of Donald Trump's first term.
The accusations
A book written by Susan Glasser and Peter Baker, called The Divider, alleges that Mark Milley wanted to resign in June 2020 during the Black Lives Matter protests, but instead decided to stick around to cause problems for Trump until the end of his term. Milley apparently said he was sticking around so that he could "fight" Trump from the "inside."
"F-ck that shit. … I’ll just fight him," the book says Milley told his staff. "If they want to court-martial me, or put me in prison, have at it. … But I will fight from the inside."
Milley also reportedly was in regular contact with former Obama National Security Advisor Susan Rice. He would refer to Donald Trump as the "enemy" when speaking with Joe Biden's incoming team.
The book War, written by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, alleges that Milley called Donald Trump "fascist to the core."
Milley was trying to get multiple high-ranking officials to join him in his fight against Trump. Breitbart indicates that Milley "allegedly convened the heads of the military branches, referred to as the Joint Chiefs, to 'bolster their resolve to resist any dangerous political schemes from the White House.'"
If Milley wants the protections that America has to offer, then he should be working FOR America's president, not against him.
Do you think Hegseth was right to launch this investigation into Mark Milley?
