Possible McConnell replacement tied to Obama adviser

My regular readers already know that I trust politicians about as far as I can throw them, and considering I have had three spinal fusions, that is not very far.

So, my ears immediately went up when I read some background on a leading candidate in the race to replace the retiring Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

McConnell Retires from Leadership

I have been after McConnell from virtually the first day I started covering politics nearly a decade ago.

McConnell is and always has been an obstructionist, better known for what he blocked than what he achieved as the GOP leader in the Senate.

When McConnell announced that he would not be running for leadership again, it was music to my ears, but I have to admit, I was disappointed in his replacement, Senator John Thune (R-SD).

Thune was a lieutenant of McConnell’s, and my fear is that it would be McConnell 2.0. The jury is still out on that, but I am still very wary of him and I don’t trust him one bit.

McConnell Retirement

The news got even better on the McConnell front in February, when the aging Senator from Kentucky announced that he would not be running for re-election.

McConnell stated, "Seven times, my fellow Kentuckians have sent me to the Senate. Every day in between, I've been humbled by the trust they placed in me to do their business right here.

“Representing our commonwealth has been the honor of a lifetime. I will not seek this honor an eighth time. My current term in the Senate will be my last."

Good riddance, I say. Now we have a chance to get some new blood in there that can shake things up. Or at least that is what I was hoping.

The Leading Replacement

Reports are surfacing that Nate Morris is likely going to be a frontrunner for the McConnell seat in 2026, but I am far from sold that he is our guy.

He has ties to Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), which means he is likely to get Paul’s support and that of this administration if he does run, which would all but make him a lock to get the nomination, but is he the right guy?

Morris now touts himself as a Trump supporter, but he barely posted about Trump until Haley dropped out. In fact, Morris donated to her campaign. But what really bothers me is that Morris teamed up with David Plouffe to join his company board at Rubicon. Plouffe was Barack Obama’s campaign manager for the 2008 campaign.

Morris very much reminds me of Ramaswamy, in that he finds the most popular road, then rides it until something better comes along. He seems to be another grifter looking to cash in, and I simply don’t trust him. Living in Texas, there is nothing I can do to stop him, but for our readers in Kentucky, please do your due diligence before pulling the handle for this man.
