Prime Minister Justin Trudeau finally out in Canada
One of the biggest thorns in the side of Donald Trump has been removed.
Justice Trudeau has finally been replaced as the Prime Minister of Canada, with the party installing Mark Carney to replace him.
Trudeau pushes back against Trump
Donald Trump has called on Canada to do more to stop the flow of fentanyl across the border from the north.
After one month, Trump stated that he thought Canada needed to do more, therefore, the 25% tariffs would be activated on March 1. Trump has since pushed that date back to April 1, but that did not stop Trudeau from calling out Trump during the waning days of his time as PM.
Trudeau, in part, stated, “Our tariffs will remain in place until the U.S. trade action is withdrawn, and should U.S. tariffs not cease, we are in active and ongoing discussions with provinces and territories to pursue several non-tariff measures. While we urge the U.S. administration to reconsider their tariffs, Canada remains firm in standing up for our economy, our jobs, our workers, and for a fair deal.
“Because of the tariffs imposed by the U.S., Americans will pay more for groceries, gas, and cars, and potentially lose thousands of jobs. Tariffs will disrupt an incredibly successful trading relationship. They will violate the very trade agreement that was negotiated by President Trump in his last term.”
Tearful Goodbye
With the election over and Trudeau’s successor chosen, the former PM gave his farewell speech, taking one more shot at Trump in the process.
Trudeau stated, “As Canadians face from our neighbor an existential challenge, an economic crisis, Canadians are showing exactly what we are made of. Canadians are showing what it is that makes us Canadians—not by defining ourselves by who we’re not but by proudly embracing who we are.
“We’re a country that celebrates the right of each and every person to be who they want to be, to pray as they pray, and love who they love.
"We’re a country that will always defend a woman’s right to choose. We’re a country that will be diplomatic when we can but fight when we must, elbows up.”
The New Guy
If you were expecting the venom to slow down with Mark Carney having been elected to replace Trump, think again.
Carney came out of the gate spitting even more venom, stating, "Canada never ever will be part of America in any way, shape or form.” He then went on to say that Canada was ready to respond when someone else “drops the gloves,” and the tariffs that are now in place will remain so until the United States “shows us respect.”
Carney then immediately went into campaign mode to try to defend the Liberal Party being in charge in the upcoming election, claiming that opposition leader "Pierre Poilievre’s plan will leave us divided and ready to be conquered." This was clearly in reference to Trump wanting Canada to become the 51st state.
With Trudeau gone, the Liberal Party is already back up in polling, so don’t expect the conservatives to win this race. Canada is an uber-liberal country, which is why I am against it becoming the 51st state. I think it is a huge miscalculation on Trump’s part, as this acquisition would likely hand Democrats the House and Senate, as well as more electoral votes in the presidential election. It would be like adding another California to the country. Yet, for some reason, nobody is talking about that aspect of this.
