Pritzker pushes back against Trump crime takeover

Several weeks ago, Donald Trump announced that he was federalizing DC over crime rates.

Trump is now claiming that his takeover has made DC the safest city in the country.

He has also identified another city for takeover, but the governor of the state is getting ready for a fight.

DC takeover

We all know Donald Trump likes to exaggerate things from time to time, but this is one area where he needs to keep his facts dialed in.

Trump recently appeared with local police, telling them, “We’re not playing games. We’re going to make it safe. And we’re going to then go on to other places.”

Federal agents have been all over the city, with dozens of arrests being reported every day.

I am not doubting that this has had a positive impact in regard to crime, but DC is still far from being the safest city in the country. But I would say, from what I have seen thus far, this has been a successful operation, and I would love to see Trump continue it.

New city

Now, Donald Trump is looking to branch out on the federalization of cities, identifying his next target, another Democrat-run city.

Trump stated, "I think Chicago will be our next. And then we'll help with New York."

He later called Chicago “a mess,” adding, "We'll straighten that one out probably next. That will be our next one after this.”

Just like DC, I would love to see these cities work in a partnership, but with these violent crime rates, I just don’t see any other choice for Trump if Dems don’t want to clean their cities up.

Governor goes off

Illinois Democrat Gov. J.B. Pritzker is not a fan of Trump helping to fight crime in his state, so now he is spitting rhetoric back at Trump.

He stated, “As Donald Trump attempts to create chaos that distracts from his problems, we’ll call it out for what it is. Trump and Republicans are trying to distract from the pain they’re causing — from tariffs raising the prices of goods to stripping away healthcare and food from millions.”

Pritzker continued, “After using Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. as his testing ground for authoritarian overreach, Trump is now openly flirting with the idea of taking over other states and cities.”

Every weekend, dozens of people are shot, and if these thugs could shoot straighter, the homicide rates in cities like Chicago would be far higher. I would think Pritzker would be more interested in saving lives than in scoring political points, but I guess that is just too much to ask.
