Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene reports bomb threat at Georgia residence: Claims link to Palestine
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's home was the target of a reported bomb threat linked to a Russian IP address, purportedly in support of Palestine, but no explosives were found.
On a recent Monday, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene disclosed a bomb threat against her home in Georgia. According to Greene, the threat was communicated through an email sent from a Russian IP address, which bizarrely claimed the attack was for "Palestine."
The Rome Police Department was alerted and received a detailed email about a supposed bomb. The email described a device made from a galvanized pipe, equipped with end caps, a kitchen timer, wires, metal clips, and homemade black powder, hidden inside Greene's mailbox.
The sender of the email declared the bomb could detonate over the weekend or whenever the mailbox was opened. They expressed a lack of concern over potentially harming police officers in the process.
Swift Response from Local Law Enforcement
The assistant chief of the Rome Police Department was one of the first to receive the alarming message. Authorities were quick to act, sending a bomb squad to investigate the premises at Greene's home.
Upon examination, the bomb squad concluded that there was no active threat present. A video posted by Greene herself showed an officer in protective gear inspecting her mailbox, highlighting the seriousness with which the threat was taken.
Following the initial local law enforcement's handling of the situation, the case was escalated to the Federal Bureau of Investigation due to the nature of the threat.
Tragic Incident Amidst Security Concerns
The investigation into the bomb threat was marred by a tragic event. A traffic accident occurred involving a member of the Floyd County Bomb Squad en route to Greene's residence, resulting in a fatality.
Tammie Pickelsimer, aged 66, was the victim of the crash. The Rome Police Department confirmed the incident, and the Georgia State Patrol took over the investigation into the accident.
While the officer involved was not critically injured, the community felt the weight of the tragedy deeply.
Ongoing Threats and Congressional Security
Rep. Greene, who has been a controversial figure since her election, noted that this was not the first instance of false police reports at her home. In the past, disruptive swatting incidents, including one last Christmas, have posed challenges to her safety.
This bomb threat is seen as part of a larger pattern of security threats directed not only at members of Congress but also at recently elected cabinet members of President-elect Donald Trump.
In response to the threat, Greene expressed her gratitude towards the law enforcement officers for their swift and professional handling of the situation. "I’m so grateful to every member of the Rome Police Department for your swift and professional response in ensuring my safety," she said.
Investigation Under FBI Jurisdiction
With the situation under control and no immediate danger at Greene’s residence, the investigation was formally handed over to the FBI.
The Congresswoman has been actively collaborating with both local and federal law enforcement to track down the perpetrator. "Due to the international nature and severity of this threat, my office is collaborating closely with local and federal law enforcement, including the FBI, to ensure the perpetrator is brought to justice," Greene stated.
The FBI's involvement underscores the serious implications of the threat, given its international connections and the explicit support for Palestine indicated in the threatening email.
