REPORT: Walz spent $430k on committee hearing prep

Governor Tim Walz has yet another problem on his hands.

He went from being an anonymous governor that few have ever heard of to being one of the most controversial figures in politics.

He just got himself into more trouble when a report surfaced that he spent more than $400,000 of taxpayer money on prep work for his congressional hearings.

Gestapo

There is no need to go back to all the problems that Walz had during the campaign, as he has given us plenty since then.

For instance, Walz was giving a commencement speech this spring where he could not resist the urge to take some shots at Trump, saying that he was using ICE like a “modern-day Gestapo.”

Acting Director Lyons took exception, stating, “On the final day of National Police Week — when those brave enough to put on a badge and a uniform mourn their fallen brothers and sisters — Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz referred to my professional, hard-working ICE agents and officers as ‘modern-day Gestapo.’ This abhorrent, dehumanizing and ignorant comment should not be tolerated.

“It seems that Mr. Walz prefers violent criminal aliens are released into Minnesota’s communities. If the governor doesn’t like the laws, he’s free to advocate that Congress change them, but he should refrain from putting ICE officers in danger by likening them to one of the most appalling groups in history.”

Walz Tried to Defend Himself

Let’s fast forward to a House Oversight hearing, where Walz was called to testify, and, of course, his comments about the Gestapo were referred to.

The hearing was on sanctuary cities and states, and Walz started off the hearing with a statement, which read, “We have a broken immigration system in this country. I think everyone in this room agrees with that, but nothing Minnesota has done to serve its own people stands in the way of the federal government managing border security and policies.”

Walz was continuously blasted, often stammering through his answers and looking as confused as an eight-year-old would be if they accidentally walked into a sixth-grade class instead of a second-grade class.

Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) slammed Walz on X after the hearing, telling him, “You work for the law-abiding citizens of Minnesota, not criminal illegal aliens – act like it.”

Write a Check

One of the reasons I despise government officials is that they have no real idea about spending money. It’s not their money, so they just don't care what things cost, which brings us back to Walz, who spent a reported $430,000 in taxpayer money to prep for that disastrous hearing.

He was reportedly paying about $516 per hour to a law firm for legal preparation for his big moment before the committee… all taxpayer money. Rep. Jim Nash (R-MN) responded to the report, "A half a million dollars of taxpayer money to prepare the governor to go to his old stomping grounds seems exorbitant, particularly since the AG for the state of Minnesota was in Congress with Walz at the same time, and the two of them certainly could have figured out how to do what they were needing to do.”

By 2029, Minnesota is projected to be operating at a $6 billion deficit, yet this is what Walz is spending his taxpayer money on. Keep in mind, Walz served in Congress for a dozen years, so what is it that he was not ready for in terms of questions that his regular team could not handle for this hearing?

When Walz’s team was asked to justify the spending, they blamed it on Republicans for holding a hearing they deemed to be a political stunt, adding, "What’s most frustrating is that Tom Emmer and Pete Stauber planned this spectacle knowing what it would cost and went through with it anyway." Deflect and deny, the Democrat way.
