Ronna McDaniel crawling back to GOP for a job
Ronna McDaniel, in my opinion, was one of the most disastrous leaders we have ever seen of the Republican National Committee (RNC).
We were promised red waves and red tsunamis, but none of it ever happened, eventually leading to her resignation and transition over to the mainstream media, but now that ship has sailed too, and she is looking for a new home.
McDaniel is OUT
While the GOP did win the House back on her watch, it would be hard to make an argument that McDaniel’s term running the RNC was anything but a failure.
The GOP had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get a death-grip on Congress, but it was never able to take advantage of the opportunity because McDaniel and her team failed to generate enough momentum.
It became quite clear that Trump wanted his people in charge after the mid-term elections were over, and pressure was applied to McDaniel to step down, which she eventually did.
She announced, “I have decided to step aside at our Spring Training on March 8 in Houston to allow our nominee to select a Chair of their choosing. The RNC has historically undergone change once we have a nominee and it has always been my intention to honor that tradition.” Soon after, it was announced that she had signed a contract with NBC.
Trump Takes Over
The GOP needed to keep the House and take the Senate if Donald Trump was going to have any chance of getting his agenda passed in Congress, and he clearly wanted his people in place.
After McDaniel left, Trump did just that, backing Lara Trump, his daughter-in-law, as the RNC co-chair with Michael Whatley. After Trump endorsed Lara for the position, she stated, “Proud to have the endorsement of my father-in-law and 45th president, Donald J. Trump, for this position and understand the fundamental importance of this role.”
Lara announced that the RNC would start to go over every contract with a fine-toothed comb to shed the fat, and it would start to “prioritize the fundamental mechanics of winning elections to ensure that we triumph in close races.”
It is tough to say she was anything but a success, especially since I had projected the House to be lost back to the Democrats in 2024. Regardless of the majority edge, keeping the House was a monumental achievement when you consider how much of a disaster the last two years were with the GOP running the show.
Crawling Back
Lara Trump is now gone from the RNC, leaving after just one election, and guess who is crawling back to the party after her contract with NBC fell apart?
McDaniel just landed a role with a nonprofit organization called Michigan Forward Network, which is being funded by the DeVos family, hoping to swing the state of Michigan from a true battleground state to a more conservative state.
McDaniel popped back on to the scene this weekend, stating, “President Trump’s historic victory last year showed that Michiganders are sick of extreme policies that have made our communities unsafe, our schools fail, and our state too expensive. I’m excited to work on expanding on that success and getting Michigan back on track.”
I am not sure if McDaniel is doing this to raise her profile again, but I am not sure she is savable as long as Trump is calling the shots for the GOP. To that point, McDaniel was mocked by Trump after NBC let her go, telling her she was stuck in “never Neverland,” which is not exactly a sign of support for someone who wants to get back into the game. From my perspective, I hope the GOP never lets her anywhere near another leadership position.
