Rudy Giuliani Held in Contempt
There was a time when Rudy Giuliani, a former New York mayor, Trump attorney, and Trump surrogate, was considered an American hero.
That was a long time passed, and now, after having been found in contempt in his defamation suit, Giuliani has fallen from grace and could be penniless when all is said and done.
An American Hero
I still remember virtually every detail of the 9/11 attacks as they happened as well as the aftermath.
Moments after the towers collapsed, the whereabouts of Giuliani were not known, then suddenly, there he was, covered in ash, addressing the media. At the time, the mayor spoke very softly, clearly shaken, but in control, stating, “Today is obviously one of the most difficult days in the history of the city.
“The tragedy that we are undergoing right now is something that we’ve had nightmares about. My heart goes out to all the innocent victims of this horrible and vicious act of terrorism. And our focus now has to be to save as many lives as possible.”
He was instrumental in every aspect of the recovery, with Bob Kerrey, a former Democratic governor and senator, admitting, “Trust me, the range of possibilities for leaders is quite extreme: Some panic, some get paralyzed. Giuliani was brave and reassuring, and you can’t subtract that from his résumé.”
Days Gone By
As Giuliani worked his way into Donald Trump’s inner circle, the media went after him with everything they had, and this included Hollywood.
Giuliani was set up in a “Borat” film, caught on video with a young girl in a hotel room in one of the most humiliating things I have ever seen.
Giuliani tried to spin this after the fact, stating, “I only later realized it must have been Sacha Baron Cohen. I thought about all the people he previously fooled and I felt good about myself because he didn’t get me.”
He did get him, and it was humiliating, and it was the beginning of the end for Giuliani.
Contempt
Giuliani recently lost a massive $146 million defamation lawsuit, and his net worth is “only” about a third of that. He is going to have to liquidate all of his assets to pay this judgment, and he will still be in the hole by about $100 million.
I joked the other day that he may have to move to the staff quarters at Mar-a-Lago and start washing dishes.
To add insult to injury, now he has been found in contempt because he did not obey a court order to turn over his financial information regarding the settlement. The judge did not impose any fines yet, but they are coming.
He is yet another casualty of the Trump 2020 election narrative. Donald Trump may have avoided legal problems, but dozens of his closest allies have had their lives ruined, yet nobody seems to really want to talk about that.
