Sanders Blames Wildfires on Climate Change
Whenever we see events like the California Wildfires, Democrats love to point to climate change.
To that point, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was one of many Democrats to say these fires prove you need to take this science seriously.
Sanders Blames Climate Change
I am not a science buff, so I am far from qualified to counter anything about climate change. I get the premise, and pollution is obviously bad, but climate change cannot be the convenient excuse for these disasters so Dems can pour more money into green energy.
Just like we see Dems do with mass shootings, they immediately politicize natural disasters, such as these wildfires.
To that point, Sanders stated, "80,000 people told to evacuate. Blazes 0% contained. Eight months since the area has seen rain. The scale of damage and loss is unimaginable. Climate change is real, not 'a hoax.' Donald Trump must treat this like the existential crisis it is.”
Sanders got pummeled for his comments, mocked by Pirate Wires Editor-in-Chief, Mike Solana, who stated, "'[G]lobal warming ate my homework' doesn't work anymore. literally every single politician in california responsible for the catastrophic failure to prepare for this, from water management and controlled burns to the fire department's budget, is a democrat."
Biden Administration Blames Climate Change
It took no time at all for Joe Biden to use the same excuse. Instead of holding people accountable, Biden stated, "Climate change is real. ... There is global warming, it's real.”
Gavin Newsom did not appreciate Trump calling him out for his failures, stating that Trump was politicizing the event. It’s not politicizing it if is right. Dems just don’t like being held accountable.
John Podesta, Biden’s senior adviser for international climate policy, also blamed climate change, stating, “You would think hopefully he would have learned from the public’s reaction to that — that you have to take the science seriously. You have to take the facts seriously. You have to take the threat seriously.”
Now, as I stated, I am not a scientific expert, but what I can comment on is the history of these fires to prove the fires themselves are not some phenomenon that just started.
History of Wildfires
The National Interagency Fire Center has only been keeping official stats on this since the year 2000, but the origination of these fires dates back to the 1700s. While there was more vegetation back then, somewhere between four and nearly 12 million acres would burn annually.
Moving forward, wildfires have averaged more than 7,000 fires since 2000, with the first 1 million acres burning in a season being 2003. That happened again in 2007 and 2008.
We did not see wildfires exceed 1 million acres of damage again until 2017 and 2018. And again in 2020 and 2021, with more than 4 million acres being burned in 2020. The next two years, wildfires were limited to less than 400,000 acres, but in 2024, they once again exceeded 1 million acres.
The point being, that this happens every year, but properly preparing for these fires can minimize damage. Sadly, that did not happen this year, which is why I believe these fires continue to rage out of control.
