Schiff Says Biden Was Wrong to Pardon Family Members

During his last few minutes in office, Biden announced a pardon to several of his family members.

At the time, most Democrats sat on their hands, but now some are coming out to speak up against Biden’s pardons, likely because they want to go after Trump for the pardons he just issued.

Joe Pardons the Family

Literally moments before greeting Donald Trump at the White House's front door, Biden announced that he was preemptively pardoning family members.

Biden stated, “My family has been subjected to unrelenting attacks and threats, motivated solely by a desire to hurt me — the worst kind of partisan politics. Unfortunately, I have no reason to believe these attacks will end.”

The pardon covered James B. Biden, his brother; Sara Jones Biden, James’s wife; Valerie Biden Owens, Mr. Biden’s sister; John T. Owens, Ms. Owens’s husband; and Francis W. Biden, Mr. Biden’s brother.

There now remain questions about how valid pre-emptive pardons are, so that will have to be answered. However, this move also drew criticism, to the point that members of Congress on both sides expressed interest in passing legislation to dial back the presidential pardon powers.

Trump Reacts to Pardons

Needless to say, Donald Trump jumped all over the pardons after they were announced.

He responded, "That makes him look very guilty. I said 'if I do that, it will make me look very guilty.'

"It's unbelievable precedent it creates for a president. Now maybe every president that leaves office, they're going to pardon every person they've ever met."

Trump had reportedly considered pardons for staffers and family members before leaving office in 2021, but he ultimately decided against it. But, please note, when those rumors were flying around, just about every Democrat in office said pre-emptive pardons were likely a sign of guilt.

Schiff Finally Speaks Out

Schiff had remained silent on the pardons, but he finally commented, asking “what kind of precedent” such pardons would set.

He stated, "He was right when he made those remarks. He was wrong to give these pardons. And among other things, what it says now to the Trump family and to President Trump's kids, they can engage in any kind of malfeasance, criminality, craft, whatever, and they can expect a pardon on the way out the door.”

Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) added, "It's harder to stand on the high ground and make a critique of the Trump pardons on January 6th when President Biden is pardoning family members.”

I stand by my earlier reports that if you did nothing wrong, they why the pre-emptive pardon, and Joe Biden issued quite a few of them. At this point, I say bring them all in since they now have immunity and see what you can get out of them. And if we found out they did break the law, use it against the Democrat Party to crush them in the next election cycle.
