SCOTUS gives Trump huge legal win
Donald Trump has not had much luck in the courts, but the pendulum may be swinging back in his favor.
The Supreme Court just handed him a huge win among his many defeats, and I am sure Trump is loving this win, as it is pretty significant.
Trump’s Tariffs
Donald Trump loves his tariffs, often using them as a way to get other governments to buckle to his demands.
Had Trump had two consecutive terms in office, I believe he would have destroyed Iran with tariffs, but Biden lifted them, and Iran is back up and running as a terrorist nation again.
Earlier this week, Trump took a massive blow from the U.S. Court of International Trade, which ruled that Trump could not use emergency powers to enact his global tariffs.
The ruling has been appealed, and is temporarily stayed, but that fight is far from over.
Judge Blocks Trump on Congestion Pricing
Just as another example of how judges are blocking Trump on every front, when Trump tried to put his nose into New York’s congestion pricing, he was blocked again.
Hochul started a policy to try to drive more people to public transportation, introducing “congestion pricing,” but there was significant pushback on the policy, and Trump tried to step in.
Governor Hochul’s office responded, “Congestion pricing is legal and it’s working, delivering better infrastructure for millions of working-class New Yorkers who use public transit as well as faster commutes for those who drive cars — and that’s why Governor Hochul is keeping the cameras on.”
Judge Lewis Liman ruled in favor of the state, issuing an order to protect the congestion pricing, in what was a huge blow against Trump because he put Liman on the bench. This issue is still being litigated, however.
SCOTUS Hands Trump Big Win
While Trump has been having a rough go of it, the Supreme Court just handed Trump a monster win, limiting the authority of lower court judges to block infrastructure projects over environmental concerns.
Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who Trump appointed, authored the majority opinion, stating, "NEPA does not allow courts, ‘under the guise of judicial review’ of agency compliance with NEPA, to delay or block agency projects based on the environmental effects of other projects separate from the project at hand.
"Courts should afford substantial deference and should not micromanage those agency choices so long as they fall within a broad zone of reasonableness.”
When you consider Trump’s agenda and the protections put in place by the Biden and Obama administrations, this win is about as big as it gets for Trump. This is a win that will positively impact our energy independence, something that will impact all of our bottom lines, so, yes, I am quite excited that Trump finally got this win.
