Sec. Kristi Noem agrees with idea of eliminating FEMA in its current form
The liberal media and Democrats went absolutely bonkers after Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem suggested that a major federal agency be done away with -- at least in its current state.
According to Politico, as part of President Donald Trump's massive overhaul of the U.S. government with a focus on eliminating waste, Noem said she's open to getting "rid of FEMA," the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The bombshell revelation came during a CNN interview over the weekend during the network's "State of the Union" show.
Noem said the agency should be overhauled to focus on getting local officials more help in times of emergency or disaster.
What did she say?
Noem held nothing back when offering her opinion on whether or not to scrap FEMA.
"I would say, yes, get rid of FEMA the way it exists today," Noem said on CNN’s "State of the Union" on Sunday.
She added, "We still need the resources and the funds and the finances to go to people that have these types of disasters, like Hurricane Helene and the fires in California, but you need to let the local officials make the decisions on how that is deployed."

President Trump suggested he would scrap the agency during a visit to North Carolina last month, where he toured some of the hardest-hit areas where residents are still struggling.
FEMA took a mountain of blowback from its response -- or lack thereof -- to hurricane recovery efforts in the area, as thousands of North Carolina families were stripped of their homes and the life they once knew.
Trump expressed his support at the time for states to have more control over disaster scenes such as the one left by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina.
Social media reacts
Many agreed with Noem and the president as far as getting rid of FEMA for something more effective and efficient.
"What the left doesn’t understand is these agencies don’t exist for bureaucratic control over citizens, but to serve We The People," one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, "It is top heavy and ponderous at best!"
