Sen. Fetterman says Dems getting it wrong on Israel and Palestine

I still remain amazed that Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) has become the voice of reason for the Democrat Party. This all started over Fetterman breaking with the party over Israel when the war between Israel and Hamas first broke out.

It continues now, as Fetterman is pushing back against this huge movement in his party to recognize the Palestinian state, which would be in direct conflict with the wishes of Israel.

The Movement

Dems have been pushing for this for some time, but over the last few months, they have really started to put the squeeze on.

For example, in September, a group of Senate Democrats made the push to recognize a demilitarized Palestinian state.

Among the Democrat senators backing the proposal was Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR), who had stated, “We need to interrupt what’s happening. We need to have an immediate cease-fire, the hostages returned and an inundation of aid.”

He continued, “But we also need a vision for where we go so that 30 years from now, there is a peaceful and prosperous Middle East where we’re not caught in the grip of this conflict.”

Other Countries Pressuring

Things only got worse from there for those who did not like the two-state solution, as some of our major allies also fell in line with this narrative.

The United Kingdom, France, Canada, and Australia were among the countries that were advocating for a two-state solution.

Not only were our allies pushing for this, but liberal voters in the country were doing the same.

While less than half of Republican voters wanted to see the recognition, nearly 80% of Democrat voters backed the idea.

It’s a Betrayal

Fetterman has made his position very clear on this for some time, but he is speaking out again with all the pressure being applied by allies and his fellow Democrats.

He stated, "It’s an absolute betrayal for Israel and for the worldwide Jewish community.”

He later added, "Whether it's France or Australia or any of these nations, our Western allies are now calling for a two-state solution when Hamas refuses to disarm and are actively trying to kill Jews. I can't imagine why anybody would do that at this point.”

I have to give Fetterman props for sticking by his guns on this, as I don’t see any way he gets backing from party leadership when his seat comes up for re-election. I don’t see him winning as a Democrat, and I don’t see him being accepted as a Republican, so this could be a one-and-done term for him.
