Senate takes lead on Trump budget bill as House GOP fights over it

President Donald Trump's budget bill was supposed to take off in the House of Representatives without much of an issue, until issues immediately arose.

As a result of inner-party turmoil, the Republican-led Senate is now taking the lead on the president's bill, which includes measures for defense, energy and the southern U.S. border, Fox News reported

The bill, should it pass, was described as a "massive conservative policy overhaul" that would cement Trump's promises to get America back on track after Joe Biden wrecked it for four years straight.

Senate Budget Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) unveiled a 61-page resolution that essentially checks all of Trump's boxes.

What's happening?

Despite widespread reports of Republican infighting in the lower chamber over the budget bill, House leaders are still insisting that they'll take up the resolution first.

Only time will tell if that's the case, but in the meantime, Graham's version of the bill is absolutely massive, and a game-changer to say the least.

Fox News noted:

It would fund completion of Trump's border wall, as well as provide dollars for more beds in detention centers at the border. The bill would also include funds to hire more Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, hire more personnel patrolling the border and increase the number of immigration judges in order to process the backlog of existing asylum cases.

The bill would also tackle the energy issue. Offshore drilling would receive a huge boost, and the Biden administration's methane admission fees would be ended.

The Senate bill would also profoundly bolster the U.S. military, and gear it towards warfighting instead of concentrating on DEI initiatives like it did under the Biden administration.

Fox added:

Graham also signaled the bill would be deficit-neutral, with his press release stating that its $342 billion in new spending will be offset by the same amount of money in savings.

Republicans have the edge

House Republicans do not even need to worry about Democratic opposition to the bill, and future bills that Trump wants passed before the end of the year.

Fox noted:

Because the House already operates on a simple majority threshold, it will allow Republicans to skirt Democratic opposition to pass their agenda – provided the measures included involve budgetary or other fiscal matters, as reconciliation rules call for.

But the infighting needs to end sooner than later, or else Trump's agenda could be critically delayed.

Only time will tell which chamber gets the ball rolling first.
