Some Republicans not happy with Trump

When Donald Trump was elected, he had the clear support of the entire party, but that is starting to change.

From the House to the Senate, Trump is losing support, and his “big, beautiful bill” could be at risk.

Greene unhappy

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has been a Trump loyalist from day one, but she has started to falter a bit.

According to Greene, she represents Donald Trump’s base, and the base is not happy with a lot of his recent decisions.

She stated, "I represent the base and when I’m frustrated and upset over the direction of things, you better be clear, the base is not happy. When you are losing MTG, you are losing the base. And Trump isn’t on the ballot in the future, so do the math on that."

She later added, "I campaigned for no more foreign wars. And now we are supposedly on the verge of going to war with Iran. I don’t think we should be bombing foreign countries on behalf of other foreign countries, especially when they have their own nuclear weapons and massive military strength."

Collins has serious objections

We all know Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) has never really been behind Trump, but he will need her support to get his budget passed, as the GOP, even with reconciliation being used, only has a few votes to spare.

Collins now appears as though she will be voting with Democrats, stating, “Based on my initial review, however, I have serious objections to the proposed freeze in our defense funding given the security challenges we face and to the proposed funding cuts to – and in some cases elimination of – programs like LIHEAP, TRIO, and those that support biomedical research.”

If Collins is out, that likely means Senator Murkowski (R-AK) is out, and possibly Senator McConnell (R-KY). Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has also expressed hesitancy to support the bill, which would be enough to defeat the legislation in the Senate.

The bad news for Trump is that the dissent does not stop there.

Add one more

Senate Armed Services Committee Chair Roger Wicker (R-MS) is now pushing back on the budget proposal, believing the proposed budget will hurt our military in terms of preparedness and keeping pace with countries like Russia and China.

He stated, “President Trump successfully campaigned on a Peace Through Strength agenda, but his advisers at the Office of Management and Budget were apparently not listening. For the defense budget, OMB has requested a fifth year straight of Biden Administration funding, leaving military spending flat, which is a cut in real terms.”

Wicker had also stated, “The Big, Beautiful Reconciliation Bill was always meant to change fundamentally the direction of the Pentagon on programs like Golden Dome, border support, and unmanned capabilities – not to paper over OMB’s intent to shred to the bone our military capabilities and our support to service members.”

In terms of military spending, we know that China has kicked up its commitment considerably, so there is no way around upping the budget for the Pentagon if we want to keep pace, and Wicker is clearly worried the new budget will not do that. If he is worried about that, there are others likely feeling the same way, and they are all going to have to be pacified before this bill hits the floor, or it will crash and burn.
