Supreme Court rejects Mexican lawsuit

This week, the Supreme Court rejected a suit filed by the Mexican government regarding AR-15s and AK-47s.

The fact the court shut down the suit was not surprising; however, the comments made by liberal Justice Kagan are worthy of coverage because her words are going to crush future efforts by Dems to have AR-15s banned in this country for law-abiding citizens.

Dems Try to Ban AR-15s

In 2021, the late Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) introduced legislation to ban AR-15s.

She stated, “To be clear, this bill saves lives. When it was in place from 1994-2004, gun massacres declined by 37 percent compared with the decade before. After the ban expired, the number of massacres rose by 183 percent.

“We’re now seeing a rise in domestic terrorism, and military-style assault weapons are increasingly becoming the guns of choice for these dangerous groups.”

Her words made about as much sense as the argument made by Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick to ban hemp products in the state. In other words, it made no sense.

Biden Tries to Outlaw AR-15

Toward the end of his term, Joe Biden also tried to ban the AR-15, calling it an “assault weapon,” which has always made me laugh. Technically, every weapon in existence is an assault weapon, so I have never quite understood why Dems took that approach, but I digress.

Biden, at the time, stated, “An AR-15 was used in the shooting of Donald Trump, just as other assault weapons were used to kill so many others, including children.

“It’s time to outlaw them. I did it once and I will do it again.”

Dems have always claimed this is a military weapon, only the military does not use AR-15s. And I don’t know if you have ever fired one, but these guns are a hoot to take to the range.

Supreme Court Rejects Case

Mexico tried to hold the United States accountable for the gun violence in the country, focusing on the way guns like the AR-15 are marketed, but the Supreme Court, as I expected, rejected the case.

Justice Kagan wrote the majority opinion, stating, “Mexico’s allegations about the manufacturers’ ‘design and marketing decisions’ add nothing of consequence. As noted above, Mexico here focuses on the manufacturers’ production of ‘military style’ assault weapons, among which it includes AR–15 rifles, AK–47 rifles, and .50 caliber sniper rifles.

“But those products are both widely legal and bought by many ordinary consumers. … The manufacturers cannot be charged with assisting in criminal acts just because Mexican cartel members like those guns too.”

She just obliterated the Democrat argument that has been used for years to try to ban these weapons. You cannot ban something because a few bad actors used the item, such as mass shootings, or because someone did something stupid, as was the case in Texas with hemp products. Those words by Kagan should be used from now on in every attack the GOP launches when Dems try to crack the Second Amendment.
