Texas Congressman Resigns from House Freedom Caucus

Apparently, Democrats are not the only party eating its own right now.

The MAGA-influenced House Freedom Caucus appears to be going through some turmoil itself.

After a member was voted out for endorsing someone other than the Caucus chair, U.S. Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) resigned from the group.

Not for Me

Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) had endorsed Chairman Bob Good’s (R-VA) opponent in the primary race, which Good then lost.

Trump had also opposed Good because he had endorsed Governor Ron DeSantis in the GOP primary race.

After DeSantis suspended his campaign, Good then backed Trump, but Trump said it was too late and he wanted Good out of office.

It was interesting to see the divide in the caucus since it is more or less the MAGA group in Congress right now.

Davidson was booted with a 16-13 vote, which upset Nehls, who stated, “With tonight's vote, it was clear that is not their objective.

“I value what the HFC brings to the table, and I can assure them I will continue to support their conservative agenda. I just won't be a member.”

This is far from the first time members of this group have clashed.

For instance, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) broke from the group to back Kevin McCarthy as Speaker.

There has also been an ongoing feud between Greene and Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO).

Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) had also been kicked out of the group for attendance issues.

At its height, the group had 45 members, so while it still has a respectable membership, the numbers are clearly going the wrong way.

If Trump wins the election, he is going to need the entire GOP caucus to be behind him in order to get legislation passed, but that is only if they manage to hold the House in this election.

My concern now is that all of this infighting will hurt their chances, which would be devastating because it does appear as though the GOP will have a very good chance of taking back the Senate.
