Texas Democrat Says He Can Work with Trump Border Czar
Donald Trump has named Tom Homan as his Border Czar.
Most Democrats are horrified by the man, but one Texas Democrat says that he can work with Homan, which will likely outrage his fellow Democrats.
Tom Homan Taking Over
Homan was in the first Trump administration as the Acting ICE Director, so this appointment was not out of leftfield.
He had some legendary hearings, just obliterating Democrats when they tried to come after him for upholding our border laws.
Under Homan, our borders were effectively locked down, seeing less than 75,000 illegal crossings per month.
Homan has made it clear that when he takes over, he is going to hit the ground running.
Get Out of My Way
After Homan was named, he put Democrat sanctuary cities on notice.
He stated, “Let me be clear, there is going to be a mass deportation because we just finished a mass illegal immigration crisis on the border.
“If we don’t do it, what is the option? Let them stay? Cause if you let them stay, you’ll never fix the border. You’re gonna send a message to the rest of the world: enter the country illegally, which is a crime, ignore a court order … we’re telling the whole world it’s OK to enter this country illegally, you’ve never got to go home.”
This is a massive undertaking, and Homan is expected to start with criminal migrants and move forward from there. I have stated numerous times, I would not be surprised if this effort falls short overall, and needs another Republican in office in 2028 to finish the job.
I Will Work with Him
Most Democrats are horrified by Homan’s words, but Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), who was very vocally opposed to Biden’s immigration policies, says he can work with Homan on this.
Cuellar stated, "We can deport people quickly under Title A, we can do ‘stay in Mexico,’ we can do so many things on policies that can work right away. In fact, today, I was communicating with Tom, and we talked about getting together sometime when I get back to D.C. in the next week or so, and I think we can find a lot of common ground."
He later added, "That tells me that Tom knows what needs to work, and I can give him my experience. It's interesting Tom and I are talking to each other. We might not agree on everything, but certainly we can agree to deport quickly the criminals, the national security folks, the 1.3 million final deportation people that have a final deportation order and are still here.
"Some of the recent crossers are some of the folks we need to look at. So, there’s a lot of things that I think we can do, and certainly Mexico has done a lot, but they can do much, much, much more stopping fentanyl and stopping people from coming in."
