Texas House member refuses to apologize for mocking Governor Abbott’s disability

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) is the new golden child of the Democrat Party, but she may have finally taken things too far.

Crockett has re-invented herself as a candidate from the “hood,” but she is anything but. However, that persona just got her into some serious trouble.

The Comment

Crockett is about as far from the hood as one could be. She was raised in St. Louis, the daughter of a local pastor, having attended Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School (MICDS) and Rosati-Kain, an all-girls Catholic high school in St. Louis.

MICDS currently charges more than $25,000 a year for lower school, and nearly $35,000 for middle and upper school. Rosati-Kain charges nearly $14,000 a year.

She then attended Rhodes College, getting her Bachelor’s in Business Administration, which is about $55,000 year. She then went to the University of Houston Law Center, which is more than $37,000 per year.

Crockett, however, has decided that insults and vulgarity work better when communicating, which brings us to a recent appearance, where she referred to Governor Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels,” clearly making a reference to his wheelchair, adding that he was a hot mess.

Not Apologizing

Crockett tried to spin this after people were outraged, even some on the left, as being misinterpreted. She stated, “I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition—I was thinking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear among the most vulnerable.

“Literally, the next line I said was that he was a ‘Hot A** Mess,’ referencing his terrible policies. At no point did I mention or allude to his condition. So, I’m even more appalled that the very people who unequivocally support Trump—a man known for racially insensitive nicknames and mocking those with disabilities—are now outraged.”

Great deflection, but two wrongs don’t make a right. When a reporter asked her if she would apologize for mocking Abbott, she doubled down again, stating, "I do have a statement. Why would I apologize when I put out a statement? My statement was clear.”

Then, when another reporter approached Crockett, she hid behind a police officer, which is rather funny when you consider the Democrats are usually attacking police, that is until they need them.

Even “The View” Was Outraged

Usually, “The View” makes excuses, but that was not the case here.

Co-host Sara Haines called Crockett an "effective" and "talented" communicator, but she said the comment was “beneath her.” Even Joy Behar said it was “not a good idea,” with Sunny Hostin really going off.

Hostin stated, "You don't mock people with disabilities. You don't mock people. I was just going to say don't mock people at all, and I admire Jasmine Crockett. I do think she is an effective messenger. I think this was a mistake, and I think when you make a mistake, you have to own it because it gives you more credibility when you do that.”

While Trump's nicknames were funny for about a second, I believe they are childish and he should avoid them, but MAGA loves them, so Trump keeps using them. Regardless, behavior by Trump does not justify someone else doing it, especially when the person is disabled. Crockett needs to issue an apology or her newfound stardom will quickly dissipate, which would be a good thing for this country.
