The Hill gets contentious amid shutdown talks

Oh, there is nothing like a couple of politicians squaring off in the halls of Congress.

The recent showdown between House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) reminded me of the good old days.

The two men were nose-to-nose, but I am going to have to give the edge to Lawler in this battle.

Blindsiding Johnson

First up is Speaker Johnson (R-LA), who had Arizona Democrat Senators Kelly and Gallego setting up shop outside his door.

They were upset that Johnson had yet to swear in Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva (D-AZ), which has not been done because of the government shutdown.

When the Democrats accused Johnson of stalling her swearing-in to block the Epstein discharge petition, Johnson shut them right down.

He stated, "That's totally absurd. You guys are experts at red herrings and distractions. It has nothing to do with Epstein. You just keep coming up with excuses.”

Battle Royal

Lawler returned the favor by ambushing Jeffries outside of his office, calling him out for not signing the continuing resolution (CR) and rejecting the one-year extension on Obamacare subsidies.

This was no match, however, as Jeffries sounded like a child, and Lawler landed gut shot after gut shot…

Jeffries’ comebacks were immature, at best, yet this is the man who wants to debate Speaker Johnson over the shutdown.

After seeing that weak display, if I were Johnson, I would be chomping at the bit to go after him.

Saving Face

The day after the dustup, Jeffries ran to the media to try to save face after Lawler embarrassed him, stating, “He doesn’t even have the support of the House Republican leadership, who have refused to address the issue of extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits.”

He continued, “We will sit down with anyone, any time, any place to reopen the government, negotiate a bipartisan agreement that has to actually make life better for the American people, not hurt everyday Americans.”

Jeffries concluded, “And a meaningful part of that is to address the Republican health care crisis, which includes, but is not limited to, the largest cut to Medicaid in American history.”

Mind you, just about everything that came out of Jeffries' mouth is a lie, which is why I would really like to see someone debate him on national TV and make a fool of him with facts. He is a fake tough guy who lies to the American people on a regular basis. He needs to be exposed as the fraud he is.
