Tim Walz latest Democrat to call for shadow government
For all intents and purposes, Tim Walz was a nobody in the Democrat Party until Kamala Harris shockingly chose him as her VP.
Now, Walz is clearly trying to raise his profile, perhaps for a run of his own, and he is pushing all the big Democrat talking points, including a shadow government against Trump.
The New VP
During the 2024 cycle, I was terrified that Harris would pick PA Governor Josh Shapiro as her running mate, as I firmly believed he would help her win PA, WI, and Michigan.
However, there were some leftists in the party who wanted nothing to do with Shapiro because he is Jewish, and many of us believe Harris backed off Shapiro for that reason.
She wound up going with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, stating, “He’s the kind of person who makes people feel like they belong and then inspires them to dream big. ... That’s the kind of vice president America deserves.”
Harris then handed the microphone off to Walz, who stated, “We’ve got 91 days. My God, that’s easy. We’ll sleep when we’re dead.”
House Dems Call for Shadow Government
As soon as Trump won, Democrats started to talk about placing a shadow government in place.
One of the first Democrats to push this narrative was Rep. Wiley Nickel (D-N.C.), who stated, “Last week stung. As Democrats, we simply failed to convince the American people we have better ideas to solve their problems, but we do. Now we need to dust ourselves off and get ready to fight.
“We can’t let Donald Trump’s extreme MAGA agenda go unanswered or unopposed,” adding that he wanted to “borrow from our British friends and appoint a shadow cabinet to fight back against the worst abuses of a second Trump administration.”
After he suggested this, I heard at least a half-dozen Democrats issue the same sentiment, and some of the talking heads on TV even suggested that this would be a good idea.
Walz Falls in Line
Walz has been all over TV lately, and he is pushing every hot topic that Democrats lost the election over in 2024 to try to raise his profile, likely thinking about making a presidential run himself.
Walz stated, “We see one of the first things they do is try and restrict the vote,” Walz said. “This is one of the things, though, that this is going to take power industry to — I don’t know what the answer is on this, but I’m kind of — I’ve been saying this: I think we need a shadow government, so when all these things come up every single day, we’ve got an alternate press conference telling the truth about what things are happening, tell them what’s going on.”
These are just not terms we are used to hearing in this country, but Democrats are now throwing them around regularly.
I am not sure what bothers me most… the boldness in thinking the American people would accept something like this or the idea that they want to steal an idea from the British government, who our Founding Fathers fought against for the freedom of this country.
