Trump announces more cuts to government workforce
Donald Trump continues to press forward with his quest to downsize our government.
On Friday, it was announced that Trump will be looking to remove government workers who are working on policies that do not support his agenda.
Trump Signs Order
As soon as Trump took office, he announced several different cuts to government workforces that had stunned everyone.
The first order was to cut probationary workers out of the workforce, which would trim more than 20,000 workers from the force.
While I support the idea of cutting back the government workforce, I do not believe in blanket firings.
What I would like to see is the directors and secretaries evaluate the personnel and positions, then make cuts based on need and ability, rather than risk losing really good employees simply because they fall into a certain category.
Trump and Musk Go on the Defense
When Democrats started to push back on the firings, Musk and Trump went on the defensive to justify the moves.
Musk stated, “The people voted for major government reform, and that’s what the people are going to get. That’s what democracy is all about.
“Some of the things that I say will be incorrect and should be corrected. So nobody can bat 1,000. We are moving fast, so we will make mistakes, but we’ll also fix the mistakes very quickly.”
I completely understand people being worried about their jobs, but I would also say that I personally know individuals who work for the government who often brag about doing crafts and other activities because they literally have nothing else to do. This is exactly why I believe positions and personnel should be evaluated based on talent and need, rather than through blanket firings.
Trump Announces More Firings
Last week, Donald Trump announced that there would be even more firings coming soon.
He stated, "Following my Day One Executive Order, the Office of Personnel Management will be issuing new Civil Service Regulations for career government employees.
"Moving forward, career government employees, working on policy matters, will be classified as ‘Schedule Policy/Career,’ and will be held to the highest standards of conduct and performance."
I have to say, this is something that I fully support, as anyone working on policy needs to be on board with the administration. This is how we root out liberal operatives looking to sabotage the administration.
