Trump call to make Canada and Greenland part of US rejected
Donald Trump has a quest to add Canada and Greenland to the United States, but I don’t see it happening.
You need two willing parties to make a deal, and right now, Greenland and Canada have made it quite clear this is not a deal they want any part of.
I Will Get Them
Trump’s quest to make Canada the 51st state is well documented at this point, but I have been against it from the start.
Canada is uber liberal, and we have more than enough of that right now, and I surely don’t want to add more to the army that the Democrats have in this country already.
Greenland is another quest of Trump’s having recently stated, “We strongly support your right to determine your own future. We will make you rich.”
I am already on record calling that statement outright stupid, as there is no way he can deliver on that promise. Not to mention, do we really want to take on the responsibility of Greenland when we are $36 trillion in debt and Americans are struggling to put food on the table? Worry about getting this country fixed first, then start talking about adding other countries to our stable.
Greenland Not Interested
Greenland Prime Minister Múte Egede addressed the offer by Trump, and his response was not very friendly.
He stated, "We do not want to be Americans, nor Danes, we are Kalaallit (Greenlanders). The Americans and their leader must understand that.
“We are not for sale and cannot be taken. Our future is determined by us in Greenland.”
Trump has even gone so far as saying that one way or another, we are going to get Greenland, which, again, I think is just a silly thing to say. Is Trump going to put boots on the ground to conquer Greenland? There are surely deals to be made here, but he is not going to get Greenland.
No Deal
Regarding Canada becoming the 51st state, Trump stated, “If people wanted to play the game right, it would be 100% certain that they’d become a state.”
Trudeau and other leadership in Canada have pushed back, including conservative leaders, so this is not happening, but let me look at this another way to tell you why it cannot happen for the sake of the conservative movement in this country.
Canada has about 40 million residents, and Canadian voters, even with Trudeau in charge, is now supporting the Liberal Party ticket by about 57% in recent polling. Do we really want to add a state 33% larger than Texas stacked with liberals?
If Trump gets his wish and Canada becomes a state, Republicans would likely never win the White House for decades, and the Democrats would likely control both chambers of Congress by adding two Democrat Senators and they would probably be +10 or better in House seats from the new “state.” So, no, I don’t want Canada as the 51st state and I think it is an absolutely idiotic idea.
