Trump Clear Wray Will Be Out in New Administration

Donald Trump nominated Christopher Wray to head the FBI to replace James Comey, a decision that was widely applauded at the time.

Wray ended up being just another version of James Comey, and Trump has made it quite clear that Wray’s time is nearly up.

Invaded my Home

I have stated in other reports that I would bet Trump would consider putting Wray in charge of the FBI was one of his biggest mistakes.

I don’t fault Trump for this, as I cannot recall a single negative thing being said about Wray when Trump nominated him. Point being, Wray was highly thought of at the time, but his time has come.

Trump made it clear he is not happy with Wray, and he is not Joe Biden, so when someone does not do their job, they get fired.

Wray still has two years left on his term, but Trump has no intention of letting him finish that out…

Patel Named as FBI Director

The establishment wants nothing to do with Kash Patel, but that is going to be Trump’s guy.

I have my own reservations about Patel, but that is just in him being handed the keys to the entire agency. I love him for this cleanup job, just not as director. I would have been far more comfortable with Patel as the Deputy Director.

In announcing Patel, Trump promised sweeping changes in the agency, stating, "This FBI will end the growing crime epidemic in America, dismantle the migrant criminal gangs, and stop the evil scourge of human and drug trafficking across the Border.”

I believe the FBI has some rogue leadership, and I think Wray is part of that, as well as simply being incompetent at his job.

Will Patel Get Support

All of the Trump loyalists in Congress have already come forward to support Patel as the FBI Director, but not everyone is on board. The GOP will have a few votes to spare, but they really need everyone on the same page for Trump to get his cabinet in place.

Patel is going to be a challenge, as the non-Trump contingent of the Senate is already expressing concern about him. For instance, Senator Collins (R-ME) stated there is a lot more work to be done before she can think about approving Patel, adding, “That’s why it’s so important that we have an FBI background check, a committee review with extensive questions and questionnaires and a public hearing.”

Senator Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and new Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) also gave some creative answers when discussing Patel as the FBI boss.

I just don’t think Patel has the support right now to get through the Senate, but the good news is that there are still a few weeks for the temperature to change before the Senate goes back into session and starts vetting these candidates. Having said that, I think Patel getting through is a coin-flip at best right now.
