Trump explains who will take over DOGE after Musk leaves

The time for Musk to leave government service has finally arrived, but boy, did he pack a lot of drama into his few months in the administration running DOGE.

That drama continued right through his final press conference as the head of DOGE, showing up with a black eye.

Disappointed

Musk had a lot of great ideas for spending cuts while he was running DOGE, but many of those cuts, if they were going to be made permanent, needed to be included in the new spending bill.

When they were not, we were all disappointed, as was Musk, who must have felt like he was used as a prop by the administration.

When asked about the cuts not making the bill, he stated, "I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing.”

Then he actually mocked Trump’s nickname for the bill, stating, "I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful, but I don't know if it can be both. My personal opinion."

Who is Taking Over?

There has been a lot of talk about DOGE being disbanded or whether someone else would come in and take over to keep it going.

When the White House was asked about filling Musk’s role, it responded, "The DOGE leaders are each and every member of the president's cabinet and the president himself, who is wholeheartedly committed to cutting waste, fraud and abuse from our government.

"The entire Cabinet understands the need to cut government waste, fraud and abuse. And each Cabinet secretary at their respective agencies is committed to that. That's why they were working hand in hand with Elon Musk.

“And they'll continue to work with their respective DOGE employees who have onboarded as political appointees at all of these agencies. So surely the mission of DOGE will continue, and many DOGE employees are now political appointees and employees of our government."

Black Eye

On Friday, Musk returned to the White House for his farewell presser, but he was sporting a black eye. Jokesters insinuated that maybe Trump had someone rough him up to play nice, but Musk offered a bit of a different explanation.

While taking a quick jab at French President Macron, Musk explained, “I’ve got a little shiner here. I wasn’t anywhere near France.

“I was just horsing around with Little X, and I said, ‘Go ahead, punch me in the face,’ and he did.”

I have always been kind of neutral on Musk, but I really think he wanted to do something special here, but I also believe he was ignorant to our laws and Constitution when he signed up for this gig, and nobody bothered to fill him in, which falls on both the administration and Musk. While I would consider DOGE a bust, I think Musk really showed the American people how much waste there is in our government, and, hopefully, that opens enough eyes to keep us in power after the mid-term elections are over.
