Trump fumes over Putin’s recent attacks against Ukraine

Just a few days ago, word of a massive prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine hit the wire.

It seemed like a precursor to a peace deal, but that was shattered when Russia launched another massive strike.

The exchange

On Sunday, reports surfaced that Ukraine and Russia had conducted a 1,000-for-1,000 prisoner exchange, which many of us saw as a show of good faith by both parties to get a peace deal in place.

Zelensky wrote, “Today, warriors of our Armed Forces, the National Guard, the State Border Guard Service, and the State Special Transport Service are returning home.

He further stated, “I thank the team that worked around the clock to successfully carry out this exchange. We will definitely bring back every single one of our people from Russian captivity.”

Shattered

That good will appeared to be shattered when reports broke that Russia had unleashed another massive attack on Ukraine.

Over the last week, it has been reported that more than two dozen Ukrainians have been killed, with more than 160 injured.

Laura Barron-Lopez reported, “Russia is escalating its bombing campaign against Ukraine with a massive drone attack hitting cities and towns overnight and into this morning. In the past week alone, 30 Ukrainians have been killed and more than 163 injured.

“That's prompted President Trump to lash out at Russian President Vladimir Putin, but also Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as diplomacy stalls and violence rages.”

Lashing out

As Barron-Lopez noted, Trump was not happy, posting, "What Vladimir Putin doesn’t realize is that if it weren’t for me, lots of really bad things would have already happened to Russia, and I mean REALLY BAD. He’s playing with fire!"

Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia and former Russian president, took that as a threat, responding, "Regarding Trump's words about Putin ‘playing with fire’ and ‘really bad things’ happening to Russia. I only know of one REALLY BAD thing — WWIII. I hope Trump understands this!"

Trump had also called Putin “CRAZY,” which drew the ire of the Russian president himself. Trump then hit Zelensky, critical of his comments about America’s silence on the attacks, as nobody was safe from his wrath.

While this is Joe Biden’s war, Trump took ownership of it during the campaign when he said he could have it ended on day one, or possibly even before he took office. At that point, it became his war, and now it is haunting his presidency.
