Trump gets SCOTUS win to stop Biden-era parole program

I think we are all quite familiar with how much difficulty Donald Trump has had in getting his agenda through the court challenges he has faced.

Thankfully, the administration was handed a win by the Supreme Court last week on one very important issue… Biden’s migrant parole program.

The Program

In January 2023, the Biden administration announced a new “humanitarian” parole program for residents of Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.

The program would allow 30,000 migrants from these countries to enter the United States using a legal mechanism called “humanitarian parole.”

In essence, conservatives viewed this as Biden moving immigrants from the illegal column to the legal column with a loophole.

Hundreds of thousands of migrants were passed through the system, allowing them to temporarily reside in the country. Numerous immigrant groups on the right investigated the program, with reports claiming that roughly 90% of the people passing through the program would have likely failed to get asylum through normal channels.

Judge Blocks Trump

One of the first actions taken by Trump was to suspend the program and remove the protected status given to these migrants.

As we have seen repeatedly during this administration, a judge blocked Trump from being able to end the program and remove the migrants.

Once again, the administration claimed it was falling victim to activist judges who were overstepping their authority to block a president’s order.

The administration announced that it would be appealing the ruling, which eventually found itself before the Supreme Court.

SCOTUS Relief

These cases have been hit or miss for Trump, but he wound up on the right side of this ruling, with the Supreme Court blocking the stay by the lower court against the deportation order on Friday.

The court did not sign the order, nor was there any explanation of the decision that was handed down. However, Justices Sotomayor and Jackson wrote a blistering dissent against the ruling.

Jackson claimed the court failed to weigh "devastating consequences of allowing the government to precipitously upend the lives and livelihoods of nearly half a million noncitizens while their legal claims are pending."

While it may sound cruel to some, this is on Biden, not Trump. Biden was using a loophole that he had to know Trump would look to close if he won, and now these people are paying the price for Biden trying to score political points. I have little empathy on this front because I am sick and tired of Democrats using illegal immigrants as pawns in their little game to secure forever power in this country.
