Trump holds forth on opponents after striking initially somber tone at RNC

In the wake of a failed attempt on his life at a Pennsylvania rally last weekend, millions of Americans were eager to hear former President Donald Trump's speech on Thursday at the Republican National Convention.

Despite rumors that Trump would come across as a changed man who was forever humbled by a brush with death, his characteristically hard-charging tone came through loud and clear, complete with specific references to several of his political adversaries, as the Daily Mail reports.

Taking no prisoners at RNC

The first part of Trump's remarks before the assembled delegates in Milwaukee did feature a more subdued tone than is typical of the former president.

Trump spoke at length about the harrowing experience of suffering a gunshot wound in an attack that also took the life of a rally attendee and seriously injured two others.

He also took time to pay tribute to the Secret Service agents he credited with moving him swiftly out of harm's way after the first bullets flew.

It was not long, however, before Trump began to ad-lib substantial portions of his address, taking aim at everyone from Joe Biden to “crazy” Nancy Pelosi.

From there, Trump articulated the key differences he sees between the policies of the Biden administration and those he intends to pursue if he secures another term in the White House.

Breaking news prompts Trump response

Trump's characteristically blunt deportment in the political realm reared its head again on Sunday amid news that Biden had decided to drop out of the 2024 presidential race.

As ABC News reported, Trump quickly responded to the president's announcement with a harsh assessment of the situation.

“Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve – And never was,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He went on, “All those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn't capable of being President, and he wasn't,” a judgement rendered after referring to Biden as “the Worst President, by far, in the History of our Nation.”

Striking a tone that countless of his supporters appreciate and hoped would return after his admittedly life-altering experience last weekend, Trump added, “We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
