Trump Mocked by Mexico’s President Over Desire to Change Gulf of Mexico
Trump has been getting people riled up over renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, adding Canada as a state, and buying Greenland. Oh, and he has also stated that he would consider military force to “take back” the Panama Canal.
I believe he needs to stop touting this because none of it will happen, and now he is being mocked by these respective officials.
That Sounds Nice
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is getting off on the wrong foot with Trump, mocking him over his desire to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico.
In taunting Trump, she claimed that she was going to rename the United States, stating, "Mexican America. That sounds nice.
"The fact is that Mexican America is recognized since the 17th century... as the name for the whole northern part of the (American) continent.”
To back up her claim, she brought a map from 1607.
Canada Has Some Fun
Ontario Premier Doug Ford also joined in for Trump saying that he wanted to make Canada the 51st state.
Ford stated, “To the president, I’ll make him a counteroffer. How about if we buy Alaska? And we’ll throw in Minnesota and Minneapolis at the same time? You know, it’s not realistic.
“I know he likes making these comments and he likes joking around — I take that seriously. He may be joking, but under my watch, that will never, ever happen.”
This idea is being taken very seriously, as even the leader of Canada’s Conservative Party has stated that there is no way he would ever allow Canada to be absorbed into the United States.
It’s Not Happening
Greenland’s PM and the Danish leadership have also pushed back, stating that Greenland is not for sale.
Regarding Trump’s claim that the United States will “take back” the Panama Canal, his history lesson was lacking, as we never “owned” the Canal. When we agreed to take over construction in 1903, and completed the Canal in 1914, it was leased to the United States, then the Carter administration turned over complete control of the Canal to Panama in 1977, a transition that was completed in 1999.
This has been a point of contention for both Panama and the United States, but trust me, we never owned the Canal. And for Trump to use military action, he would have to outright attack a sovereign nation, which would require an act of Congress, which would never be supported.
Trump needs to let this go because he is now literally being mocked on a world stage because his “facts” are just outright wrong. Not only that but how can you justify buying Greenland when we don’t have money for homeless vets and other programs that would support struggling Americans, such as the hurricane disasters from earlier this year? This is a distraction, nothing more, and Trump’s supporters in Congress need to dial this rhetoric back and get to work passing that conservative agenda they ran on in the 2024 election.
