Trump nominated Michigan Democrat as ambassador to Kuwait

Donald Trump just made a nomination that will turn a lot of heads.

In what I am sure the pundits will call a stroke of genius, Trump nominated a Michigan Muslim Democrat mayor to serve as his ambassador to Kuwait.

Shock endorsement

Amer Ghalib is a Democrat and a Muslim, and he is also the mayor in the battleground state of Michigan. This nomination did not come out of thin air, as Ghalib chose to back Trump rather than Harris in the 2024 election.

At the time, Ghalib announced, “Ladies and Gentlemen, let me be clear, so our expectations are realistic. President Trump and I may not agree on everything, but I know he is a man of principles."

“Though it’s looking good, he may or may not win the election and be the 47th president of the United States, but I believe he is the right choice for this critical time.”

He concluded, “For this, and for many other reasons, I announce my support and endorsement for the former, and hopefully, the next president of the United States, Donald Trump. Now, let the Caravan begin its journey. This is just the starting point.”

The Meeting

The endorsement for Trump came after Ghalib and Trump had met privately to discuss his concerns about his state and moving forward.

After that meeting, Ghalib stated, “The meeting was very good. I talked to President Trump about, you know, some statistics here in Wayne County and how it used to be a stronghold for the Democrats, and we always used to vote Democrat. This is not the case anymore here.”

Trump beat Harris by little more than 80,000 votes, and even the votes that fell for Kennedy and Stein in the election (they were about 70,000 in total) would not have given her the win.

Needless to say, Trump must have felt like he owed Ghalib after winning his state, and he just paid that debt off in full.

Shock Nomination for Ambassador

This week, I am sure Democrats were stunned when Trump nominated Ghalib as his ambassador to Kuwait, stating, “I am pleased to announce that Amer Ghalib will be the next United States Ambassador to Kuwait. As the Mayor of the City of Hamtramck, Michigan, Amer worked hard to help us secure a Historic Victory in Michigan.”

He continued, “Amer earned his M.D. from the Ross University School of Medicine, and continues to serve his community as a proud healthcare professional. I know he will make our Country proud in this new role. Congratulations Amer!”

Ghalib expressed his thanks to Trump for the nomination on social media, in part, posting, “I am honored and grateful to President Trump for the trust placed in me to serve our great country as the next ambassador to the state of Kuwait; a country that is dear and near to my heart. I look forward to representing our nation and strengthening the relationships between the United States and Kuwait. Thank you Mr. President for giving me this great opportunity!”

As I stated earlier, this is a brilliant move by Trump, reaching across the aisle to nominate someone for a fairly prestigious post in his administration. The exciting thing about this will be to see how Democrats react to the nomination and if they try to block it. If they do, I have a feeling it could cost them the Muslim vote in this country in the upcoming cycles.
