Trump official leaves after four months
Donald Trump has just lost another key official, but this one appears to be by design.
Dr. Sohan Dasgupta just announced that he is leaving the administration after only four months.
He claims his job has been “accomplished,” which will hopefully end the feeding frenzy the media is currently on regarding administration officials.
Cutting US aid
A key focus of this administration has been reducing the amount of aid that is sent to foreign countries.
Trump has already announced a freezing of USAID programs, as well as two rescission packages.
The first package already passed through Congress, cutting more than $9 billion in spending, which sent Democrats into a tizzy.
Now, Trump is hoping to push through a second one via executive order for nearly $5 billion, taking advantage of the congressional recess. Again, Democrats are crying foul, and they are using this as yet another way to attack Trump and Republicans.
USAID
USAID is a different matter altogether. The agency was initially started with good intentions, but we have since found that much of the spending in that program was going to partisan programs.
We have DOGE to thank for the initial exposure, but Secretary Rubio and company have continued to dig, finding tons of waste.
The problem for Trump, however, is that he keeps getting challenged on these cuts, and losing the case in federal court.
Trump is now asking the Supreme Court to step in to see if he has the authority to cut these congressionally approved funds after allegedly tracing them to some terrorist organizations and the like. This is a battle that I cannot wait to see play out.
Job well done
Dasgupta was appointed as the political head of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), which has been around since 2004, created by the George W. Bush administration.
He stated, "Service has many forms. My goal was to carry out particular projects and missions, then make way for others.” He later added, "Critical minerals and rare earth elements are a vital part of American strength… MCC has really understood that."
Kosovo’s ambassador to the U.S., Ilir Dugolli, praised him for his work, stating, "We worked closely soon after he arrived at MCC… I respect him enormously for the way he handled his portfolio and how professional he was.”
It was not immediately clear when or with whom Trump would replace Dasgupta.
