Trump revoking security clearances of top Democrats

The war between Donald Trump and Democrats is about to get kicked up a notch.

Trump just announced that he wants to suspend the security clearances of some of the top Democrats, including Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris.

Remember When…

This little game over security clearances has been going on for quite some time, starting all the way back in the early days of Donald Trump’s first presidency.

Reps. Ted Lieu (D-CA) and Don Beyer (D-VA) started this game by going after Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump’s clearances not long after Donald Trump took office during his first term.

In October 2017, the pair of Democrats announced, “These new revelations, along with the ongoing White House probe of Ms. Trump’s private email use, have compromised Ms. Trump’s integrity and credibility.

“We are requesting that the White House immediately revoke her security clearance pending an investigation into her actions.”

Trump Secret Service Protection

Democrats also went after Donald Trump’s Secret Service protection, trying to pass legislation that would remove protection for anyone convicted of a felony.

The legislation did not specifically name Donald Trump, but it was clear who they had in mind when they wrote it.

The legislation was introduced by Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), who stated, "Unfortunately, current law doesn’t anticipate how Secret Service protection would impact the felony prison sentence of a protected – even a former President.

"It is regrettable that it has come to this, but this previously unthought-of scenario could become our reality."

Trump Gets His Revenge

When Donald Trump was on the campaign trail, he had stated repeatedly that the best revenge would be a successful term, but I think we knew he would be out for his pound of flesh once taking office.

Trump drew blood again by going after the security clearances of some of the top Democrats in the party, which included Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris, stating, “I have determined that it is no longer in the national interest for the following individuals to access classified information.”

Trump’s order stated, “I hereby direct every executive department and agency head to take all additional action as necessary and consistent with existing law to revoke any active security clearances held by the aforementioned individuals and to immediately rescind their access to classified information.”

And for those that get upset about Biden’s clearance being revoked, let’s not forget that Joe Biden also tried to have Trump’s revoked, telling the media “there is no need” for Trump to get an intelligence briefing. The media said nothing when Biden did that, but what would like to bet the reaction is a bit different this time around?
