Trump says Musk not leaving DOGE ‘yet’
Last week, rumors surfaced that Elon Musk was about to leave DOGE.
The Trump administration was asked about it this week, and they are trying to keep everyone calm, but the reality is that Musk’s days are numbered.
Elon Stepping Down?
That was a common headline last week after Musk made a comment about his work at DOGE being nearly done.
The White House immediately pushed back on the report, with White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stating, "Elon Musk and President Trump have both *publicly* stated that Elon will depart from public service as a special government employee when his incredible work at DOGE is complete."
Musk really got people fired up discussing the 130-day tenure, telling Bret Baier on Fox News, "I think we will have accomplished most of the work required to reduce the deficit by a trillion dollars within that time frame.”
The 130-day tenure is due to Trump classifying Musk as a special government employee, which means he can only work for the government for 130 days over any 365-day period.
Musk Clashing
It did not take long for Musk to rub some members of the Trump cabinet wrong, at least according to reports.
Of note was an alleged clash between Musk and Rubio over Rubio not firing more people after the initial round of cuts left the State Department short thousands of employees.
There were rumors that Musk had rubbed several other members wrong as well, specifically Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
Trump tried to put this fire out as soon as it started, but I believe there is friction just due to the nature of Musk’s personality.
Not Yet
When Musk first started to work for the administration, I gave it about six months, and that was before Musk was designated as a special employee limiting his time, so this is not shocking to me.
And while there is panic that Musk may leave soon, the Trump is trying to quell that panic by saying that he will only leave when his work here is done.
White House spokesman Harrison Fields explained, "Politico has become a tabloid paper that would rather run fake news for clicks than real reporting. This is exactly why President Trump and DOGE have terminated millions of dollars in wasteful, government contracts to so-called news organizations that have diminished their credibility with the American people."
Musk will be leaving, but he will still likely have Trump’s ear because Trump knows the party needs that big checkbook of his. Musk is now the George Soros of the Republican Party, with a Bat Phone on the Resolute Desk, of that I have no doubt. So, don’t worry, he may be gone, but he will still linger when needed.
